ESCAPE Bio, Inc. ("ESCAPE") is a clinical stage, Precision Neurology biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of therapies to treat genetically defined, neurodegenerative diseases. We have a diverse pipeline of novel and best-in-class small molecule therapeutics in major areas of unmet need. We are building the leading neurodegenerative disease company focused on neurodegenerative orphan populations. ESCAPE has a strong investor base and management team and has a pipeline of early-stage clinical development programs.

Position Overview

We are looking for a senior bench Scientist with significant industry experience developing cell based assays to explore pathogenic mechanisms of genetically defined forms of neurodegeneration. The position will require significant assay development experience in cell imaging as well as experience assaying nuanced phenotypes in cell models in a drug discovery setting. The successful candidate will apply both rigor and innovation with keen attention to timely delivery of high quality data as part of a fast-paced growing drug discovery team. The candidate will be primarily responsible for developing image based assays to explore novel cellular models to enhance the understanding of disease relevant mechanisms, working both independently and in a collaborative manner.

Responsibilities:
  • Open-minded and creative with a positive attitude, capable of operating in a dynamic environment; possessing strong communication skills as demonstrated by presentations and ability to engage with diverse members of cross-functional drug discover team.
  • Independently design, optimize, manage and execute cell-based assays for preclinical studies that deliver clear mechanistic insights and meet company timelines.
  • Use high content cellular imaging assays, ELISA or MSD analysis, molecular biology, functional genomic manipulations, or pharmacological perturbations to demonstrate target engagement and phenotypic cell model assay development.
  • Effectively communicate study design/rationale, progress to project timelines, and assay results within the Biology group as well as to larger project team.
  • Open engagement in assay co-design with manager and teammates to enable innovation and development
  • Rigorously and consistently document experimental plans, data and results in notebook, as well as prepare scientific reports

Qualifications:
  • PhD or Masters in Neuroscience/Cell Biology/related degree with 5-10 years relevant industry experience (Pharma or Biotech)
  • Experience in a laboratory working as part of a multi-disciplinary team with demonstrated examples of personal and scientific leadership
  • Expertise in a broad range of methodologies for assay development in neurodegenerative disease research; such as cell culture, iPSC differentiation, ICC, high content image analysis, flow cytometry, electrophysiology, protein detection & quantification (WB, MSD, ELISA), and gene expression analysis
  • Prior experience in a relevant industrial drug discovery setting (Pharma or Biotech) is required
  • Expertise in one or more mechanistic areas is highly desirable: lipid biology, proteostasis, autophagy and lysosomal function, intracellular trafficking, neuroinflammation pertinent to neurodegenerative research, or developmental biology pertaining to iPSC differentiation
  • Working knowledge in one or more cellular systems is highly desirable: neurons, glia, oligodendrocytes, endothelial cells or other cell types pertinent to neurodegenerative disease research
  • Practical experience/functional familiarity designing cellular assays on high-content imaging platforms, visualization, algorithm development, and data analysis
  • Familiarity with image and data analysis software (FIJI, Columbus, NIS Elements, Harmony, GraphPad Prism, Spotfire)
  • Solid technical knowledge and hands-on experience in development of assays using iPSC derived neuronal disease models is a plus
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize work, and establish strong collaborations and relationships with other team members
  • Ability to work across in vitro and in vivo domains to translate cellular findings in vivo and vice versa to facilitate biomarker development is a plus
  • Demonstrated track record, in both written and oral form, of rigorous scientific research in peer-reviewed manuscripts to scientific journals
  • Willing to work a limited number of hours during weekends
  • Must be legally able to work in the US
