The Covington Safety, Health, and Environmental Manager ensures compliance with all health, safety, environmental regulatory requirements, and company health, safety, environmental and policies.

Essential Functions:

* Serve as a member of the plant leadership team developing the overall plant vision and culture
* Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental regulatory requirements and company health, safety, environmental and policies
* Lead the continuous improvement of the hazard identification and safety risk assessment schemes and Ingevity Safety Management System
* Review employee safety programs to determine their adequacy and lead improvements where needed.
* Ensure that a process exists to promote the reporting of unsafe conditions, to provide resolution of the condition, and to provide prompt response to the employee(s) involved
* Lead the development and improvement of employee safety participation opportunities
* Perform routine safety contacts, attend and present safety topics at safety meetings
* Lead a cross functional process safety improvement team tasked with developing and maintaining the plant process safety information and ensuring that process safety measures are adequate for world class process safety performance
* Confer with medical professionals to assess health risks and to develop ways to manage health issues and concerns
* Direct testing of air quality and noise levels to verify compliance with health and safety regulations
* Ensure that industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases are adequately investigated to determine causes and preventive measures
* Compile, analyze, interpret, and develop response plans for statistical data related to chemical processes, environmental performance, occupational illnesses, accidents, and general safety performance trends
* Lead and manage environmental compliance by acting as a liaison with government officials, developing or revising environmental permits, and leading projects to improve environmental performance
* Interpret safety regulations for others interested in industrial safety, such as safety engineers, labor representatives, and safety inspectors
* Ensure compliance with and stay informed of the impact of ISO/IATF 16949 on plant operations and support functions
* Lead the development of plant training that supports both the ongoing operation of the plant and the knowledge needed to increase operator autonomy and ownership
* Ensure that the Training Department is engaged with employees, monitoring training status, and maintaining compliance with established training expectations.
* Manage the annual budget for the area and ensure the group is meeting (or staying below if necessary) the budget
* Manage a team including the plant safety manager, hourly safety coordinators, safety training manager, and training coordinator.
* Other duties as assigned

Non-Essential Functions:

* Oversee the reporting of man hours and other safety data to the corporate group.
* Oversee the reporting of weekly and monthly updates for the safety team.
* Maintain OSHA logs for current, and previous 5 years, for the plant
* Exemplifies safety procedures and wears appropriate PPE
* Practices the IngeviWay

Qualifications:

* Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field
* 15+ years Production Manufacturing experience required
* 10+ year supervising hourly employees in a union environment and/or salary preferred
* Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience is preferred
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Be an active and engaged safety leader to build and maintain a strong safety culture to achieve zero personal and process safety incidents

Physical Requirements:

* Sitting at a desk for 8 hours
* Standing for 12-16 hours
* Climbing stairs and ladders
* Walking for 2-8 hours per day

Work environment

* Office setting, outdoors manufacturing plant setting, hazardous chemicals environment
