Program Description

This internship can be offered 100% virtually or a hybrid of both virtual and in person for candidates living near the Serco office in Murfreesboro, TN. Serco follows all CDC state and local COVID-19 recommendations and ensures the safety of all on-site employees.

Serco's Training and Experience Program (STEP) is designed to provide undergraduate university and college students paid accredited internship opportunities to gain meaningful, hands-on work experience in a professional environment. STEP emphasizes developing the workforce of the future. Our goal is to help you build a career roadmap that provides you with challenging and rewarding learning experiences with Serco.

Serco offers internship opportunities across the following three career tracks: Business, Technical, and Engineering. Our 2022 internship opportunities are available throughout the U.S. and Canada and begin on May 23rd and conclude on August 12th, with 1 week off July 4th - 8th. You will work with your manager to identify the best working schedule for you - working no more than an average of 36 hours a week with the added perk of half-days on Fridays.

In addition to gaining hands-on experience, you will attend training sessions taught by skilled leaders in our company which provides training to better prepare you for a full-time career. These training sessions range from finance, personality in the workplace, presentation skills, resume building, and more. In addition, we believe great ideas come from all levels of the company! Because of that, each year we challenge our interns to work in diverse teams to develop, propose and execute on a project that improves our ways of working. Throughout this project you will work with Senior Sponsors and meet with members of our Executive Team.

Position Description

To align with that, Serco has an exciting internship opportunity to support the Transportation Business Unit with alignment to our CEO and Executive sponsored Environmental Social Governance (ESG) Program. ESG which is responsible for leading Serco's commitment to contributing positively to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) domains.

As the Environmental Intern within the Transportation Business Unit, you will conduct research to align best practices in environmental sustainability with the reporting expectations that are currently in place within the BU. From your research results, you will create a list of recommendations for translating those standards into actionable recommendations for Transportation Business at Serco. You will also be responsible for assisting with developing environmentally focused employee activities that encourage employees to take action.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is innovative and driven by environmental stewardship to learn how corporate social responsibility impacts a company's missions and objectives. Over the course of the summer, you will network and interface with critical business leaders to learn how to serve as a liaison to the business and collaborate with peers to create effective solutions.

Roles and Responsibilities

Conduct research to connect the dots between the industry, Serco Group, and Serco ESG environmental sustainability measures and the Transportation Business Unit.

Analyze and identify existing practices that support the Environmental aspect of ESG.

Propose solutions to enhance Serco's environmental stewardship.

Assist in the preparation of reports, graphs, proposals, studies, and correspondence.

Innovate and help to further develop internal environmental awareness and action campaigns.

Research industry standards for environmental performance.

Work closely with Senior Leaders and reports directly to the ESG Transportation Business Unit lead.

Qualifications:

Requirements

Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Preferred fields of study: Environmental Studies, Journalism, or a related field of study.

Ideal candidates are rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Self-motivated with a strong work initiative and attention to detail.

Strong customer service, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated experience collaborating in a team environment.

Passion for learning with a wide degree of creativity and curiosity.
