Responsibilities:

CSS is looking to identify a Junior Environmental Scientists to support upcoming federal contracts.

This position is in our Environmental, Safety and Health division. CSS is a professional and technical services provider to government and commercial clients. Our services are organized into four business lines and several cross-cutting services that we have cultivated through our 32 years of corporate experience. The four business lines are Earth, Space & Life Sciences, Emergency Response & Disaster Recovery, Environmental, Safety & Health, and Natural Resources Management. Responsibilities:

Supports the performance of environmental assessments, baseline surveys, inspections, investigations, and long-term monitoring at federal facilities

Supports environmental planning activities, including National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance; contributes to environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, and mitigation planning

Supports Clean Air Act (CAA) compliance, including air quality surveys, air emissions inventories, and permit applications

Support Clean Water Act (CWA) compliance, including wetlands management, water quality evaluations, and permit applications

Supports Natural Resource and Wildlife Management activities addressing endangered species, natural resources inventories and surveys, watershed and coastal management, habitat management; performs ecological monitoring; and provides wildfire suppression assistance

Inputs data for environmental compliance and management systems; supports environmental compliance monitoring

Works onsite in a variety of locations to gather samples and data, often as part of a team

Qualifications:

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in natural science discipline (environmental, chemistry, biology, earth science, geology, geophysics, etc.) and 1-3 years of experience

Experience with federal regulations addressing storm water, waste water, potable and surface water, storage tanks, air, solid waste, hazardous waste, lead-based paint, asbestos, pollution prevention, natural resources, and/or land use planning desirable

Knowledge of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), National Pollution Discharge and Elimination System (NPDES) and other federal, state, and local regulations desirable

Knowledge of Defense Environmental Restoration Program (DERP) or Department of Defense (DoD) operations, activities, and installations desirable

Able to travel, as needed

Able to work outdoors in a variety of field conditions

The successful candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, able to maintain records, and work both independently and collaboratively with co-workers and partners in office and field settings.

Good communication and computer skills required

40 Hour HAZWOPER training and 8-hour refresher preferred for individual supporting field sampling activities associated with Hazardous waste site investigations

Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check

Position requires US citizenship and participation in medical monitoring (if involved in field investigations related to hazardous waste sites)
