We are currently seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer to bolster an already strong team! This position is responsible for ensuring a safe, compliant and effective work environment for 900 employees in R&D, manufacturing and distribution. The EHS Engineer will work collaboratively with the EHS Team and internal customers to examine potential environmental, health and safety issues and assist with controls. The EHS Engineer will assist the Sr. Manager of Quality & EHS and team with policy and procedure development and implementation.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recognize, evaluate and recommend controls for conditions or processes which could negatively affect safety, health or the environment
Develop systems to comply with all relevant regulations and other requirements
Lead site environmental programs including Environmental Management System
Administer Occupational Health and Safety programs
Participate in management of change process for safety and environmental aspects
Identify and fulfill EHS training requirements
Interface with governmental regulatory entities (Worker's Comp, Air and Water, outside consultants)
Monitor the effectiveness of EHS programs
Lead Sustainability efforts and assist with sustainability reporting
Implement controls and keep records
Owns ISO14001 Internal and External audits and recertifications.
Leads the team to develop ISO45001 and ISO50001 capabilities to become certified.
SAFETY:
Inspections - grounds, facilities, equipment (Lock Out Tag Out, Machine Guarding, etc.)
Training - deliver classroom training within skill set, coordinate online training
Personal Protective Equipment voucher program management
ENVIRONMENTAL AND SUSTAINABILITY:
Audits - grounds, facilities, chemical storage, etc. for environmental compliance
Hazardous and Universal waste inspections, handling, and recordkeeping
Training - deliver classroom training within skill set, coordinate online training
Recycling team coordination, recycling audits, recycled materials handling
Data gathering and recordkeeping for air, water, and waste regulatory reporting
SECURITY AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE:
Inspections - equipment readiness - functions testing - minor maintenance
Training - deliver classroom training within skill set, coordinate online training
Coordinate Emergency Response Team preparedness - training levels and coverage
Emergency Response within level of training
Assist Building Manager with physical security function
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Safety Sciences or related field required
Knowledge of OSHA regulations and the fundamentals of safety and industrial hygiene.
Knowledge of EPA regulations and compliance requirements.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Master's Degree in Engineering or Safety Sciences preferred
Certification in Environmental, Health and Safety Sciences preferred (CIH, CSP, CHMM, etc.)
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Communicate effectively and build relationships with all levels of the organization
Perform detailed inspections, collect data accurately and maintain organized recordkeeping.
Operate common computer software.
Execute multiple responsibilities simultaneously and successfully in a complex environment.
Ability to plan and prioritize own work, complete work on schedule and maintain required records.
Prepare documentation, presentations, and reports for internal and external stakeholders
