Job Description
The Environmental Coordinator will be is responsible for managing programs, policies and practices related to environmental compliance. This includes participation in permitting processes, environmental data analysis, management and reporting, interaction with government agencies on compliance matters, and coordination of activities with company department representatives and consultants. The Environmental Coordinator will also be involved with engineering projects and provide guidance to manufacturing activities where required, including identifying and inspecting equipment, processes, materials, supplies, ingredients, and facilities, investigating workplace accidents and evaluating current programs and compliance with regulations, as well as potential hazards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

o Serves as the primary on-site contact and liaison between environmental waste contractors, regulatory inspectors, and regulatory personnel.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements programs to assure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal environmental regulations including documentation, reporting, permits and permit renewals, manifests, training, and policy development. Coordinates and manages all on-site hazardous materials.

o Stays updated with new developments in environmental policies and regulations.
  • Provides technical support and direction for environmental compliance programs, practices, and projects.

o Performs regular site inspections for environment compliances.

o Identifies root causes of environmental problems and propose appropriate action plans.

o Assess potential environmental risks and develop mitigation plans.

o Work with cross-functional teams to maintain environmental management and monitoring programs.

o Follow and enforce environmental health and safety procedures.

o Maintains complete and clear documentations for environmental operations for reference purposes.

o Develops hazard control programs to reduce contaminations and accidents.

o Manages the participation in OSHA inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains environmental best management practices for company sites, and identifies areas of improvements to reduce environmental damages and wastes.
  • Develops and administers Environmental training and communication programs (SPCC, RCRA, HAZCOM, HAZMAT, SWPPP, etc.).
  • Interfaces with external agencies, plant, department and corporate contacts regarding various environmental initiatives, programs, and practices.
  • Extracts and manipulates data from business systems for environmental reporting.

o Oversee waste disposal and treatment programs. Characterize hazardous wastes, universal wastes, and non-hazardous wastes, including RCRA and TSCA.
  • Completes and submits periodic reports for air, storm water, wastewater, hazardous waste, community right to know programs and other relevant media.
  • Develops, submits, and negotiates environmental permits to regulatory agencies in the areas of air emissions, storm water, industrial wastewater, and hazardous waste.
  • Provides information and reports to Safety Manager and others as requested.
  • Hands on environmental testing throughout the plant, as required.
  • Demonstrates continual focus on environmental improvements and enhancements, including developing projects to improve efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Conducts daily plant walkthroughs to identifying environmental issues and coordinating improvements.
  • Conducts required environmental and quality related observations, tests, and analyses.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements for a qualified candidate:

As a small but rapidly growing firm, any role in this organization must be committed to demonstrating the ability to "jump in" and do what is necessary to achieve the BN standards and deliver to our customers, while possessing the maturity to know when to step back, assess, and execute their job in a highly effective manner.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal programs and regulations related to Environmental (Particularly air regulations and compliance as it pertains to Title V, CARB, SCAQMD requirement, etc.)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience building trusting relationships with all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

o Fluency in both English and Spanish are very desirable.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or related technical field
  • 1-3 years' experience facilitating and managing Environmental programs in a manufacturing environment
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
  • This position will support both Better Nutritionals primarily and any other affiliated buildings as needed in Norco and or Gardena.
