Ardurra is seeking an Environmental Scientist to join our staff in Newport Beach, CA.

Primary Function

The Environmental Scientist is responsible for supporting the Environmental Project Manager through the use of GIS and other software applications.

Primary Duties
  • Research, analysis, writing and graphics for environmental reports, permit packages and meetings
  • Use GIS and existing available data, reports, and project plans to independently evaluate potential environmental concerns and draft environmental analysis and mitigation for CEQA and NEPA clearance and for local, state and federal agency permits
  • Input data into pre-written computer programs
  • Complete impact calculations
  • Research code requirements and agency procedures manuals
  • Visit project sites to photograph, review and document existing conditions
  • Plan work programs and prepare both written and graphic materials for report and permit deliverables
  • Coordinate with other environmental planners, engineers, technicians, and administrative staff under the direction of the Project Manager
  • Seek technical information from the Project Manager when problems are encountered and expected to be outside of one's own area of expertise
  • Prepare correspondence, meeting minutes, and reports under the direction of the Project Manager
  • Attend and participate in client meetings and project meetings, as appropriate
  • Communicate with project team members, client representatives, review agencies, and others as appropriate to project
  • Coordinate final environmental reports, permit applications and materials with review agencies
  • Coordinate project and proposal deliverables and schedule with technical experts under direction of the Project Manager
  • Conduct research and prepare draft marketing materials under the direction of the Project Manager
  • Draft meeting materials including mailing lists, project schedules, CEQA/NEPA process flow diagrams, meeting announcements, meeting minutes, handouts, sign-in sheets, comment cards and presentations under direction of the Project Manager
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Manager

Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences or a related technical field from an accredited four-year college or university and 1-5 years professional experience including project coordination and preparation of environmental reports, permits, plans and technical studies
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and financial functions
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Conduct field visits which may involve observation of existing commercial and industrial operations or hiking in unpaved areas with the permission of the landowner
  • Must be able to read blueprints and plans
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must be open to minimum travel
