Environmental Health and Safety Specialist - Focus: Safety Generalist & Ergonomics

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced, collaborative and results-oriented individual to join our 10x team as an EH&S Specialist. The ideal candidate will have a strong safety and health background, with demonstrated hands on performance in maintaining EH&S functions in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry. The individual shall be capable of working alongside the EH&S Manager in developing, implementing, and coordinating all safety and environmental global functions according to corporate policy to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Our ideal candidate will have a strong ergonomic background with practical experience in on-site and virtual offices and be able to support our program throughout manufacturing, laboratory and office environments.

This position reports to the Senior Manager, EH&S and is based in Pleasanton, CA.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Oversee our global ergonomics program within our offices, labs, manufacturing, and remote workspaces. This will include evaluations, program and training development and delivery with a focus on risk mitigation.
  • Assist with EH&S procedures specific to the biotech and pharmaceutical industry to include:
  • Injury and Illness Prevention Plan
  • Emergency Action Plan
  • Pandemic Response Plan
  • Chemical Hygiene / Handling Program
  • Hazard Communications
  • Biosafety in Microbiological Laboratories
  • Hazardous Materials (chemical and biological)
  • Emergency Response Team
  • Safety Committee Meetings
  • Ensure a safe work environment and that all practices are in compliance with company and governmental regulations
  • Execute excellent safety and environmental practices on a daily basis
  • Identify and monitor potential hazards and determine appropriate mitigation technique
  • Assist company with regulatory inspections to include (OSHA, CUPA, Medical Waste, Controlled Substance, Fire Department, Storm Water, EPA, and BAAQMD)
  • Develop and deliver EH&S training, emergency drills, and programs
  • Assist with maintenance and inspection records of safety related items such as fire protection equipment, emergency shower and eye wash, spill response kits, first aid box, AED, etc.
  • Help maintain chemical inventory and SDS system
  • Participate and help lead the ERT
  • Standby on emergency situations (after office hours)
  • Assist with safety incident investigation and reporting
  • Assist EH&S Manager in preparing annual budgets
To be successful you will need
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a science discipline or environmental engineering and relevant experience in biotech or pharmaceutical Industry
  • Minimum three years' experience as an EH&S Specialist with a focus on ergonomics
  • Ergonomics related credentials or certifications (CPE, AEP, CIE, or CAE)
  • Demonstrated experience in hazardous waste management and practices
  • Customer service oriented with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of OSHA, HAZMAT, EPA, DOT and other governmental agencies that may apply to processes or equipment used in the Biotech industry
  • Excellent verbal and written communications
It would be fantastic if you already had
  • Demonstrated knowledge of biosafety in microbiological and biomedical laboratories
  • Demonstrated experience in handling hazardous waste and medical waste
  • 40-hour Hazwoper and DOT HazMat Certifications is a plus
  • First aid, CPR and AED certified
