MapLight Therapeutics is a venture-backed biotechnology company focused on drug discovery for central nervous system disorders. Our platform utilizes cutting-edge technologies including optogenetics and spatial transcriptomics to execute a circuit-based approach to target discovery. We are seeking highly motivated research associates with expertise in molecular biology who will become key contributors to our discovery team. The position requires working within a team to leverage the MapLight platform for target discovery and perform early-stage target validation experiments. The ideal candidate will have solid foundation in molecular, cellular, or biochemical techniques and the desire to apply that foundation to learning new technologies. Responsibilities
- Execute target discovery/validation experiments
- Learn and execute the STARmap spatial transcriptomics platform for gene expression analysis in primary tissue
- Characterize protein expression using several modalities including immunohistochemistry/confocal microscopy and Western blotting
- Provide input on experimental design and maintain updated experimental protocols and SOPs
- Data analysis and interpretation
- Contribute to the upkeep and maintenance of the laboratory
- Communicate and present experimental results within the discovery team and company-wide meetings
Ideal Requirements
- BS or MS with 2 - 5 years of experience in academic of biotechnology/pharmaceutical laboratory
- Ability to design and carry out multi-step experiments with limited supervision with the expectation to eventually operate independently
- Experience with broad biochemical, molecular and cellular techniques (qRT-PCR, RNA/DNA isolation, Western blotting, DNA/Protein electrophoresis, nucleic acid hybridization)
- Experience with fluorescent in situ hybridization for the detection of DNA or RNA
- Experience with histology, immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy
- Familiarity with neurobiology is a plus
- Organized and detail-oriented with ability to communicate results effectively
- Must work cooperatively in a goal-oriented team environment
- Strong communication (oral and written) skills that enable the individual to interact with all levels of management, technical and scientific personnel
