COMPUTATIONAL TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I , McGovern Institute for Brain Research- Synthetic Neurobiology -Boyden Lab , to join a lab that is developing cutting-edge methods for capturing high-resolution, high molecular content images of biological systems. Will assist with the computational challenges associated with imaging of large datasets for the multimodal mapping of large numbers of biomolecules throughout diverse cells and tissues in healthy and disease states; design, validate, and scale image processing and analysis pipelines in partnership with the experimentalists and apply the resulting tools to normal and diseased brain tissue and other tissue types such as cancer biopsies; analyze image processing results; write grants and manuscripts; and collaborate with students/postdocs on related projects. Responsibilities include transforming raw microscope images into interpretable datasets; collaborating on applying expansion sequencing and related technologies to analyze biological specimens from animal models and human patients; data management; analyzing imaging data to derive biologically and medically useful conclusions; creating and delivering presentations; developing and deploying image processing pipelines on terabytes of raw data; maintaining a publicly available codebase; and automating repetitive computational tasks to build an internal library of reusable computational tools. Job Requirements REQUIRED : bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematical biology, bioengineering, biological engineering, or related area that combines computational skills with biological systems; two years' image processing and software engineering experience; broad knowledge of chemical biospecimen processing; fluency with Linux, MATLAB, Python, or sufficient knowledge of other languages for the switching cost to appear minimal; excellent interpersonal, communication, documentation, analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills; attention to detail; and ability to work independently and with remote team members/collaborators. PREFERRED : familiarity with experimental science and image processing software in microscopy, e.g., FIJI.
