Well-funded next-generation circular RNA therapeutics startup built on technology from a world class academic lab and funded by some of the best VCs in the business, is seeking a Scientist, Biology and Pharmacology to join the Biology Team developing next generation nucleic acid medicines. The role will develop and execute the target and disease biology approaches for a discrete area of relevant biology such as gene therapy, liver disease, immuno-oncology, autoimmunity, infectious disease, or vaccines. The position will be a key member of the Biology and Pharmacology team and an effective collaborator with other members of the R&D organization. This position will work closely with the Biology and Pharmacology Lead in selection of diseases and targets that fulfil significant unmet clinical needs within their area.
The position will be expected to be a voice for the selection of candidate programs within the R&D organization and drive their portfolio of programs to fast paced and high-quality decision points. They will be expected to run and manage a wide range of in vitro and in vivo experiments effectively both in house and outsourced. The position will also be expected to contribute to development of the platform validation and enabling in vivo experiments as a key collaborator with the Platform Team. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in driving forward multiple therapeutic programs to late-stage discovery or clinical stages. The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in nucleic acid medicine therapeutics and a record of advancing multiple discovery programs to a late stage. All candidates will need a startup mentality and the desire to be at the cutting edge of a new field of therapeutics.

Responsibilities:
- Plan, design, and execute in vitro and in vivo biology studies both in house and outsourced
- Act as a key contributor to the design and execution of in vivo platform enabling experiments.
- Lead disease and target biology choices within their area of expertise
- Provide oversight and drive excellence from external vendors (e.g., CROs)
- Work closely with the Platform and Formulation Teams to ensure high-quality drug products for biology studies
- Effectively communicate scientific progress through written reports and slide presentations both within and outside the R&D organization
Qualifications:
- PhD in biology, pharmacology, or a related field with 2+ years of postdoctoral and/or industry experience; or BS/MS with 5+ years of industry experience
- Experience with CRO management
- Hands-on experience with developing therapeutics in one of the following areas: gene therapy, liver disease, immuno-oncology, autoimmunity, infectious disease, or vaccines
- Proven track record of designing and executing both in vitro and in vivo preclinical studies
- Experience with nucleic acid therapeutics is preferred
- Clear communication skills and ability to collaborate with team members in the same and adjacent disciplines
