Jr. Environmental Chemist

Position Description

Are you looking for a Jr. level chemist position in the environmental field?

Serco is currently seeking a Chemist for our Environmental Laboratory in Athens, GA. The position involves laboratory testing and support for environmental sample matrices including but not limited to air, water, sludge, and soil. The Chemist will assist with the performance of established air and chemical analyses, instrument calibrations and maintenance, handling field and laboratory equipment, supply inventory, receipt, and shipping of air cylinders.

In this position, you will:

• Support the organic extractions, metals preparation, and wet chemistry labs as well as the air laboratory.
  
• Receive technical directives, chains of custody, and enters project information into the Promium Element Data System.
  
• Have responsibility to ensuring accurate and timely input of all client information related to supply/sample receipt, analysis, and specific client requirements including shipping.
  

The Jr. Chemist will be provided on-the-job training and will work in a collaborative environment where there will be opportunities for learning and expanding knowledge and skills.

Qualifications

The Chemist must have:

• A Bachelors degree in science or related field or equivalent and two years of related experience in a scientific or related field.
  
• Knowledge and use of Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  
• Knowledge of laboratory and experimental procedures as well as ability to apply this knowledge in performing assigned laboratory tasks.
  
• The ability to provide instrumentation and laboratory support for tasks such as instrument setup, calibration, testing, maintenance, maintaining/updating equipment SOPs and manuals and analysis.
  
• The ability to communicate effectively,
