Job Summary:
The successful candidate must be a self-starter who is responsible for advancing the leadership, statistical knowledge, and project base of the statistics program to support a wide range of environmental projects and the organization.

Responsibilities include:
  • Mentor statisticians on complex experimental design, statistical analysis, and consulting
  • Provides senior leadership to the statistics program in collaboration with the organizational management team
  • Develops business opportunities in applications of statistics to natural resource disciplines
  • Develops and/or reviews major proposals, statistical methods, complex analyses, study designs, field protocols, and publications
  • Regularly publishes peer-reviewed manuscripts and/or R CRAN packages.
  • Successfully manages projects and advise statisticians on project management
  • Maintain positive relationships with coworkers, clients, and stakeholders
  • Markets WEST's capabilities and develops new clients

Job Requirements

Qualifications:
  • A master's degree or PhD in statistics or related field (mathematics)
  • Ten (10) plus years of demonstrated work experience as a consultant and as an applied statistician in the areas of ecology, fisheries or wildlife research.
  • Experience in advanced analytical techniques such as Bayesian hierarchical modeling, Markov decision support, population modeling, spatial/movement analysis, and survival analysis
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a history of publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to work well under time constraints and meet deliverable targets and deadlines
  • Experience with statistical software
  • Ability to effectively use Windows operating system and Microsoft Office applications
