Primary Duties/Responsibilities
- Author SDS's globally in compliance with country specific regulations and GHS
- Independently review and analyze product formulations, specifications, and other necessary documentation/literature for proper country specific hazard classification (global)
- Developing hazard classifications for raw materials and mixtures related to human health, physical and environmental hazards including use of the UN "purple book" for global harmonization systems (GHS) and country specific requirements from the EU, USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, South Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand.
- Identify and address inconsistencies in the SDS program
- Ensure SDS program calendar tasks are completed
- Meet on regular basis with SDS Program Manager and SDS team
- Develop and maintains forms and procedures
- Design rule logic in SDS authoring software
- Design/update SDS subformats
- Enter data and run inquiries in SDS authoring software
- Complete special projects as required (ex: ingredient hazard evaluation project, SDS authoring system automation….)
- Evaluate and propose Dangerous Goods instructions
- Back up to SDS coordinator for SDS inquiries
- Self motivated and dependable with excellent attention to detail and pride in the work delivered
- Critical thinking skills including problem solving, data analysis, and effective management of priorities
- Excellent intrapersonal communication and customer service skills
- Excellent skills with Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and conference call meetings
Qualifications/Education:
- 10 years of experience in SDS authoring skills required
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biological sciences, toxicology, industrial hygiene or any equivalent related field required
- Domestic and international transportation certifications required (examples: IATA, DOT, IMDG)
- Experience with SDS authoring software (example: WERCS STUDIO)
- Excellent understanding of laws and regulations governing SDS's: United Nations Purple book (GHS), USA OSHA hazcom, EU CLP, and SDS regulations for the following countries: Canada, China, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Malaysia, India, Hong Kong.
- Experience classifying mixtures and authoring SDS without relying on software rules (manual authoring based on documentation provided)
- Excellent understanding and certifications in the transportation regulations: local ground country specific, and international (example: TDG, DOT, DGR, IATA, ICAO, IMDG, etc.)
- Some experience with consumer products is preferred but not a requirement
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a team environment while being an individual contributor is required.
- 40 hours per week: 3 days on site + 2 remote days (Fridays are remote)
