Position PurposeThe Corporate Safety Manager is responsible for implementing and managing employee safety programs and procedures. This role participates in developing or supporting safety and associated programs or initiatives to manage compliance with all safety, health, and environmental regulations. The Corporate Safety Manager continuously promotes and maintains a proactive collaborative compliance culture in the company while maintaining efficiency, safety, and the wellbeing of employees.Functional Responsibility
  • Manages and monitors day-to-day operations and team performance to ensure smooth workflows and that company standards are met
  • Manages company culture and holds self, peers, and direct reports accountable for demonstrating a constructive company culture through influential, personal behavior and actions; encourages strong work ethic and fosters an environment of trust and respect
  • Develops and aligns individual goals with the department's operational goals; ensures that decisions, actions, and priorities are aligned with the company's vision, mission, and strategies
  • Researches best practices, stays abreast of industry trends, and maintains awareness of regulatory changes to ensure compliance and continually improve operations
  • Assists in preparing the departmental budget, monitors spending, and directs team in cost-effective operations to ensure adherence to financial objectives
  • Monitors performance and regularly communicates with direct reports to achieve mutual understanding and desired results
  • Partners with immediate manager to determine staffing needs; attracts, motivates, and retains a workforce with the appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities to achieve goals and objectives
  • Provides employees with a safe, healthy, and rewarding work environment; ensures delivery and completion of monthly safety topics
  • Communicates and supports change initiatives and decisions in an effective manner to successfully guide team through change
  • Fosters a work environment that encourages creative thinking, promotes flexibility, and drives innovation
  • Addresses employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner; notifies HR Business Partner and keeps immediate manager informed as appropriate
  • Ensures compliance and consistent application of company policies, initiatives, and decisions
  • Coaches, guides, and develops direct reports; fully engages in the GPS (Performance Management) process; provides high-quality feedback, and ensures proper GPS documentation of employee performance, recognition, and deficiencies
Essential Duties
  • Promotes a collaborative leadership role in the management of all safety, health and environmental compliance initiatives involving safety orders/standards, emergency response, risk management/process safety management, and homeland security programs including facilitating compliance related to applicable ordinances, permits, and certifications
  • Actively provides continuous improvement of company safety, health, and environmental policies through positive, proactive collaboration and compliance support of managers, employees, and business partners
  • Provides regulatory advisement, constructive feedback, employee development or mentorship, corrective measures, and assists with flexible action plans to increase overall safety, business efficiency, and regulatory compliance
  • Oversees and ensures the prompt response to, investigation, and resolution of any incidents, injuries, and illnesses; assists managers with incident reporting, investigation, follow up and implementation of corrective actions
  • Manages loss prevention programs in partnership with HR and addresses problem areas for both workers' compensation, safety, health, environmental, and general liability; monitors programs for compliance with existing and new laws
  • Ensures a proactive approach to accident prevention and regulatory compliance by managing the administration of companywide safety and related compliance training programs including overseeing training material content, scheduling, delivery, and training database management
  • Leads development and maintenance of all emergency action/response and security plans; manages all emergency response/action and evacuation drills and provides feedback
  • Manages and coordinates all safety programs including safety committee and audit or inspection activities; provides consistent active support of all compliance program activities including departmental activities, expenditure monitoring, contract or project support, change management, ISO/Food Safety, environmental, site security program, temporary employee needs and vineyard operations or hospitality compliance functional requests
  • Performs annual review and detailed reporting of all health and safety programs to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations and reflects current company policies and practices, complements management responsibilities, and incorporates any applicable changes that have occurred
  • Acts as company representative to professional, industry, federal, state, and local regulatory/response agencies

Minimum RequirementsEducation and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Safety Management or a science related field
  • 5 to 7 years of Safety and environmental management experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Skilled in the use of MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and associated platforms such as SharePoint
  • Strong communication, teamwork, analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage workloads, multitask, and provide flexible support
  • Proficient in OSHA regulations and associated regulatory codes or standards
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct complex safety investigations and identify then address unsafe workplace hazards, behaviors and trends
  • Experience supporting or managing RMP, PSM, IIPP, and Security Programs preferred

Certificates and Licenses
  • Valid Driver's License
  • CPR, First Aid & AED Certification
  • Hazwoper Certification preferred
  • 30 hour OSHA GISO or Construction Safety Certification preferred
Working Conditions
  • Manufacturing plant environment with occasional travel
  • Required to drive automotive vehicle or
  • Indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to the elements/temperature variations
  • Exposure to weather-related temperature & humidity extremes
  • Required to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
  • Exposure to varying levels of dust, chemicals, fumes, gases, and noisy equipment
