Position Title: Medical Technologist II
Department: GMC Dav Laboratory
Purpose: Perform moderate and high complexity testing in some or all areas of the Laboratory, including Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Serology, and Blood Bank. Medical Technologists key responsibilities include proper patient and specimen identification, adherence to testing policies and procedures, instrument use and troubleshooting, and computer functions. Medical Technolgists work closely with Phlebotomists, Medical Laboratory Technicians, Nursing and Physicians to provide patient care. Meets qualifications for testing personnel performing high complexity testing as specified in C.L.I.A. Subpart M. Sec. 493.1491
Report To: Manager, Laboratory Services
Supervisory Responsibility: Guidance: The job requires the provision of occasional guidance and training to others. The job does not have formal or official supervisory responsibilities.
Materials Responsibility: Limited: Work requires limited responsibility for material resources. Examples of resources could include supplies, equipment, inventories, small budgets, and other similar material assets. The employee has a limited amount of control over these resources. The cost of errors is also limited in terms of damage, waste or financial loss. Problems associated with material resources are not complex. The volume of resources may vary, but the level of difficulty in dealing with these resources is uncomplicated.

Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
Field Of Study: Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
Special Training:
Training Preferred:
Licensure/Registration: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or categorical/specialist certification in a laboratory discipline from ASCP or certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) from HEW or AMT or completion of a Military training course as a Medical Laboratory Specialist. Certification in one of the following: MT(ASCP), or CLS (NCA), or MLS(ASCP), or MT(AMT), or MT(HEW) required within one year of employment or classified as an MT per CLIA requirements.
Experience: No experience required.
Interpersonal Skills: Interaction is with a variety of people inside or outside the organization. Communications are of moderate difficulty and sensitivity. Contact with others may involve detailed & lengthy dialogues & exchanges of information. Requires a moderate amount of interpersonal skills. Interactions involve dealing with moderately complicated problem situations or stressful encounters.
Working Conditions: There is exposure to moderately adverse and undesirable environmental conditions. There are some health and safety risks. Position may require safety equipment and precautions. The amount of time the employee may experience these moderate conditions exceeds 70% of their work day.
