If so, we are looking for someone like you to join our advanced research team at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.

We are seeking a Neuroscience-Inspired Artificial Intelligence (AI) Post-Doctoral Researcher to contribute to and lead the development of novel AI systems building on insights from large-scale neuroscience datasets and cognitive neuroscience models. This research will seek to overcome limitations in current AI approaches to improve the application of AI and machine learning systems to real world problems. We are a large, multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers engaged in groundbreaking research in applied neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and robotics. We are looking for a motivated and collaborative researcher to develop next generation artificial intelligence and neurological health capabilities as a strategic advantage for the nation.

  • Your primary responsibility will be defining and developing novel artificial intelligence algorithms and applications inspired by and utilizing insights from neuroscience for a variety of problems in sensory processing, robotics, and healthcare.


  • You will make an impact as a part of a multi-disciplinary research team, collaboratively building a vision for neurally-inspired AI and connectomics research with government and commercial partners.
  • You will assist in the extraction of novel insights from neuroscience datasets or cognitive models for novel system development.
  • You will assist in the analysis of neural datasets for new insights for AI algorithms.
  • You will communicate key research findings both internally across teams and externally to the broader research community through papers, presentations, technical reports, and proposals.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
  • Hold a Ph.D. in computer science, engineering, neuroscience, mathematics or related disciplines.
  • Have demonstrated expertise in defining and executing research problems in the space of AI and/or computational neuroscience.
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to articulate complex technical issues effectively and appropriately for a wide range of audiences.
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.   • Are able to obtain Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You meet our desired qualifications if you...


  • Have recent experience in algorithms development with some combination of the following programming languages: Python, MATLAB, Java, C++/C, R.
  • Have experience in technical proposal writing.
