Athena Academy is a community of people passionate about providing high-quality education for students who think differently. We work collaboratively to design curriculum and truly enjoy coming to work because of the teaching teams, the students, the supportive parents, and the creative energy on campus. Our faculty describe working at Athena Academy as teacher heaven!
We are excited that our enrollment is growing and we find ourselves in the position of opening more classrooms.
Athena Academy utilizes the teaching methods that have shown great success in helping bright dyslexic students to learn the strategies and techniques that best suit them. We recognize that the students we serve are primarily visual-spatial learners. This innate thinking style gives these students deficits in learning to read normally but gives them tremendous advantages that we can use to teach them the way they were meant to learn. We empower our students to use their dyslexic differences to their advantage. We recognize that these students must have a calm, focused mind in order to learn. We create an environment and employ methods specifically to provide and maintain focused attention in our learners.
The classroom teacher at Athena Academy is responsible for implementing as part of a team, curriculum for elementary school-aged students in language arts and/or math. In addition, the classroom teacher delivers hands-on, project-based science and social studies curriculum, in conjunction with the age level team members. The teacher is also responsible for differentiating and being flexible with the curriculum and students so that each student is appropriately challenged and supported in their learning. The classroom teacher is an integral member of the community and is responsible for professional interactions with students, colleagues, current and prospective families, and local community members in a variety of different settings. The classroom teachers are trained in working with visual-spatial learners, and professional development and continuing education are expected of all members of the community.
We are currently looking for a passionate classroom teacher interested in working with elementary OR middle school aged students in multi-age classrooms. Experience with dyslexic students is helpful, but not required.
If you are interested in this position, please submit a cover letter sharing your interest in working with dyslexic students, your teaching philosophy, and a resume.
