Our COVID testing program is used by the University of Michigan, local hospitals, community drive-thrus, athletic programs, K-12 schools, and other partners across the State.

As part of our software development team, you will be working to develop and maintain our in-house custom-built laboratory information management system (LIMS), which powers all lab operations, direct-to-patient result reporting, and more.

Job Description:

The Accessioning Technician is responsible for assisting the Molecular Techs and Accessioning teams with basic tasks and functions required to maintain the smooth operation of the daily operations. In addition to the above, the individual will be expected to work efficiently in a computerized environment. The applicant will be trained on LIMS basic operation and maintenance, quality control/quality assurance SOPs and protocols.

Responsibilities

Receiving and recording delivery of patient samples on a daily basis.

They will be touching the COVID sample and going into the BSL2 hood

Receiving and unpacking samples and verifying contents and condition of received samples.

Working knowledge of the laboratory information system (LIMS), including accessioning test requests per protocol.

Performing data entry into the LIMS assigning specific computer-generated identification numbers to each sample.

Routing samples into the appropriate workflow and ensuring downstream staff is alerted to sample availability.

Maintaining proper documentation of proper specimen handling, ensuring accurate labeling of samples and preparing of worksheets used in sample tracking.

Maintaining specimen identification, integrity, and chain of custody throughout.

Interacting with health care providers and responding to inquiries concerning patient lab results in a professional manner, including resolving paperwork issues and returning materials to clients.

Performing setup and maintaining a clean, organized, and stocked work area.

Communicating with co-workers so that the specimen processing flows smoothly over breaks and between shifts.

Ensuring that all laboratory work is CAP and CLIA compliant;

Ensuring compliance with other regulatory agencies as required.

Participation in all quality assurance, quality control, and competency assessment programs.

Responding positively to change and willingness to learn new ways to accomplish work.

Communicating effectively to enhance productivity, build respect, and seek constructive approaches to resolving workplace issues.

Maintains a professional appearance and interacting effectively to build respectful relationships with coworkers, supervisor and other personnel.

Follows Company policies and procedures at all times.

Shift:

2nd Shift - 3:00pm - 11:00pm

3rd Shift - 10:00pm - 6:30pm

Opportunity for growth:

Can be promoted into a Molecular Technician role - Running Real Time PCR, performing extractions, analyzing and documenting results

Promotion would include a $4 to $8/hr raise

Qualifications:

Must be either working towards or have already completed a degree in the science field.

ie: Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cellular and Developmental Biology, Microbiology
