POSITION OBJECTIVE
Working under limited supervision, coordinate research projects that evaluate and characterize process involved in response of cancer cells to novel cancer chemotherapy treatments. Working closely with the shared resource director, evaluate and characterize processes involved in response of cancer cells to novel cancer chemotherapy treatments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCITONS
Design, perform and analyze cell culture research projects as required by clients of the Translational Research Shared Resource in the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center including additional analyses to be performed using software packages, including CalcuSyn. Devise new protocols and techniques for research projects involving of cell growth and death evaluations. (35%) Perform nucleic acid extractions from specimens provided by clients. Specimens include a variety of laboratory and clinical specimens, some from sources that are challenging to utilize. Evaluate the adequacy of techniques and/or devise new protocols and techniques for research projects involving a high degree of skill and training. (25%) Perform cell biology analytical protocols (Western blotting, PCR, immunofluorescent microscopy, flow cytometry). (10%) Manage the biospecimens associated with Cancer Center clinical trials. Receive biospecimens from research nurses, phlebotomists, surgeons and radiologists at affiliated and collaborating clinical sites. Process. Biospecimens using tissue culture, analysis of protein, RNA and DNA extraction using a variety of techniques, Western blotting, Comet assay, PCR, immunofluorescent microscopy and flow cytometry. Ship biospecimens (10%)
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: 3 to 5 years of related experience.
Education: Bachelor of Science degree.
