Position Summary:

Currently, we are seeking a Scientist with 5-10 years of industry experience as a material developer in the consumer products industry to support the Personal Care sector in Neenah, Wisconsin. Specifically, this role will initially be focused on being a material lead on key projects with business unit partners. The focus will be on the development and commercialization of materials.

Scientists at Kimberly Clark work as a member of the Research and Engineering (R&E) team to develop and implement a new product, process, material or technology concept. The Scientist for this role will work with fast-moving consumer products, supporting the development of Personal Care consumable products. They will provide leadership in the design, development, and optimization of, typically, Nonwoven and Absorbent Materials for consumer product solutions, supporting the K-C brand plans. Candidates should have experience across multiple technologies or industries. The incumbent reports to a Team Leader and receives direction in the form of specific project and innovation pipeline objectives.

The role requires expertise in developing and commercializing material technologies as part of a cross-functional team. The role requires knowledge of materials and the structural/performance relationship between primarily nonwoven materials and absorbent systems that drive hygiene garment performance. The role requires excellent communication skills including networking and partnership with product developers, process development engineers and other materials scientists to develop and commercialize new materials. Team members typically have project leadership responsibility in one or more projects as well as support roles in one or more other projects. In this role, the incumbent will also be expected to manage the vendor relationship with external partners and coordinate material development activities with key suppliers and production locations across several different internal product development projects with mainly North American implementation, but also internationally, as required.

Required Qualifications:
  • Candidates must possess a bachelor's or advanced degree in related major scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Alternatively, demonstrated equivalent scientific ability, based on relevant experience (Material Science/Development, Polymer Science or NonWovens knowledge) and appropriate education.
  • 5-10 years of industrial experience in a variety of R&E product/material development roles or other related experience.
  • A demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and across functional boundaries to complete projects within required timeframes.
  • Experience analyzing material properties and their impact on product performance.
  • Exceptional communication skills. Has the ability to effectively translate complex technical concepts to others.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in vendor management
  • Previous experience in materials development and commercial scale-up and roll-out, completing material and product qualifications.
  • Experience leading material and product commercial launch activities with global manufacturing partners.
  • Absorbent materials experience Demonstrated track record of effectively working with global partners and suppliers to deliver results
