Overview During the past five decades, St. Jude has made remarkable progress toward curing childhood cancer and other life-threating diseases. At St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, we know what can be achieved when the brightest scientific minds face the fewest barriers. That's why we provide world-class facilities, state-of-the-art technologies, extraordinary support and a collaborative, bench-to-bedside environment where you can see, firsthand, how your science translates into survival for the children we serve. St. Jude Children Research Hospital ensures that scientific progress is never halted from a lack of resources. We are building on that success with a comprehensive strategy to expand our mission, including our reach around the world. St Jude Children's Research Hospital launched a major new strategic initiative in human stem cell research. At the foundation of this initiative was the establishment of a new human stem cell shared resource called the Center for Modeling Pediatric Disease (CMPD) where human stem cells will be produced and differentiated to improve treatment for catastrophic diseases of childhood. A custom built robotic platform will allow the CMPD to reprogram primary cells and perform differentiation assays at a scale that that is unprecedented. The CMPD is led by Sunita D'Souza and her energetic, talented, multi-disciplinary team who are dedicated to support the research endeavors of the faculty at St. Jude. The Senior Scientist in the CMPD will lead all stem cell differentiation studies enabling world-renowned investigators to answer their scientific questions. This will include development and optimization of new stem cell differentiation procedures and implementation of those procedures at scale for high-throughput drug screening and high-content image based screening efforts. The successful applicant will be responsible for managing all aspects of stem cell differentiation and collaborating with faculty and staff on exciting and innovative research projects. Daily responsibilities include working with the director and facility staff to develop new stem cell differentiation assays, optimize and validate existing assays and perform stem cell differentiation for St. Jude investigators. In addition to the leadership role in stem cell differentiation, you are expected to play an integral role in the day to day operations of the laboratory, consulting with researchers to formulate optimal workflows and experimental priorities. The Senior Scientist also designs one-on-one training or education sessions to guide best practices and support productive collaborations across the institution. You will oversee all work performed, and you are expected to maintain extensive knowledge and expertise in current and emerging stem cell differentiation techniques and the associated protocols. This is a dynamic laboratory environment where you will work with researchers involved in innovative basic and translational research for the fulfillment of our mission: Finding Cures. Saving Children.
