JOB PURPOSE

Create a safe learning environment for the children in the preschool that fosters inquiry, exploration, learning & respect.

Collaborate with co-teachers to create lesson plans and projects that reflect the Reggio Emilia approach to teaching.

Facilitate communication between the family and the preschool.

SCOPE OF INFLUENCE
  • Lead classroom through daily activities
  • Communicate with families about the children's progress and work.
  • Partner with the teaching staff and administration in the overall philosophy and direction of the preschool.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Planning, Preparation + Curriculum Development
  • Co-constructing curriculum with co-teacher, based on children's interests
  • Share in documenting, analyzing, and planning from observations
  • Weekly planning meetings with a teaching team


Classroom Environment
  • Participate in planning and creating a classroom environment with inquiry, exploration, learning and respect in mind
  • Create a warm and inclusive environment where children and families feel welcome
  • Participate in organizing physical space and selection of materials in a way that is inviting and accessible for children
  • Share in creating visual evidence of the narratives and curriculum occurring in your classroom


Interactions with Children
  • Speaking and listening to children with respect and mindfulness
  • Assist in classroom procedures including transitions, routines, and small groups
  • Engage students in exploration and learning; curious about the children's perspective
  • Translating and coaching children through conflicts with problem-solving


Relationships with Families
  • Building respectful and reciprocal relationships with families
  • Participate in two sets of parent-teacher conferences (fall and spring)
  • Present two parent nights throughout the year, to share ongoing work and classroom curriculum


Professional Responsibilities
  • Share in documenting children's work, development and progress
  • Collaborative and professional relationship with colleagues
  • Reflective, asks questions, willing to take risks and make mistakes
  • Weekly supervisory meetings with Director
  • Participate in weekly professional learning meetings as a whole staff
  • Participating in the professional community, including relationships to colleagues, service to the school and organization, and involvement in a culture of professional inquiry
  • Showing professionalism including integrity, ethical conduct, and decision making


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Required Knowledge

Bachelor's degree preferred

Teaching experience in an early childhood setting preferred

Strong oral and written communication with parents, children, and co-workers
