This dynamic research facility is seeking a Research Assistant to assist the Associate Director and microscopy technologists with maintaining, operating, and training users on our Nikon Super-Resolution SIM-STORM microscope, Live -Cell Confocal and Multi-Photon microscopes and Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM). The Assistant will help maintain cleanliness of the lab, including washing, assist with preparing reagents and sample preparation for both light and electron microscopy with ultra-thin sectioning for TEM for biological samples. The Assistant will provide technical assistance, training and consultation opportunities to researchers; provide maintenance of lab equipment and maintain laboratory and research databases for annual reporting. Some travel for training and conference participation may be required. Training in specialized duties will be provided. Experience:

Required:

A BS degree in general science but biology preferred or equivalent education/experience.

Good communication and interpersonal skills for interaction with a wide variety of users from campus as well as external institutions and private companies.

Experience with spreadsheets and word documents.

Desired:

Lab management experience and /or specialized training in preparation and sectioning of samples for TEM.

Light Microscopy instruments including Confocal, analytical instrumentation & electronic equipment.

Experience with sample processing for a variety of biological samples for Light Microscopy observation.

Training/teaching experience.

Experience performing literature searches.

Additional Information:

The Campus Microscopy and Imaging Facility (CMIF) is the biomedical confocal and electron microscopy (EM) core facility serving over 150 faculty labs per year at The Ohio State University.

Pay Range:

Hourly Rate of: $17.10 - $22.50
