Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Bioinformatics Programmer.

NYU Langone Health, a world-class, patient-centered, integrated, academic medical center, and one of the nation's premier centers for excellence in clinical care, biomedical research and medical education, is a seeking highly motivated, enthusiastic individual to join the Applied Bioinformatics Laboratories (ABL). The Applied Bioinformatics Laboratories (ABL) and the NYU School of Medicine Cancer Center are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and creative individual to work on a variety of high-impact research projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for the analysis of various types of genomic, epigenomic and transcriptomic data, customization of computational pipelines, data integration and advanced analyses including tumor evolution, neoantigen identification, and single-cell and spatial transcriptomics.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Support the team in its common research goals
  • Perform quality analysis of the generated sequencing data and develop solutions to enhance future performance
  • Perform different types of data analysis relating to genomics-based approaches utilized by various laboratories in a largely independent fashion.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot existing bioinformatics pipelines
  • Develop new bioinformatics pipelines to support new molecular assays
  • Develop new methods for multi-omics data analysis and integration
  • Work with lab users to analyze biomedical data and address clinical needs using bioinformatics techniques and tools
  • Present results of analyses to team members

Minimum Qualifications:
  • To qualify you must have a Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Bioinformatics, System Biology, Computer Science or related field
  • Knowledge of biology and understanding of key and complex biological concepts (genes, pathways, cancer and/or stem cells)
  • Attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects
  • Experience in Unix/Linux systems including high-performance computing environments
  • Strong programming skills in R and Python
  • Knowledge of algorithms, data structures, machine learning, and statistics
  • Expert in sequencing data analysis
  • Expert in executing standard bioinformatics pipelines
  • Expert in creating customized sequencing analysis pipelines
  • Excellent communication skills with proficiency in written and oral English

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to prepare reports and presentations
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently (e.g., find papers relevant to the subject, assess methods, implement methods, and apply them to datasets to reproduce results)
  • Ability to function in a multidisciplinary team including MD's and PhD's
  • Flexibility ability to work under stress/deadlines
