ROLE of the POSITION The Department of Early Childhood, Multilingual, and Special Education seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Special Education with an emphasis in Generalist (Mild/Moderate) Special Education to begin fall semester 2022. This position offers candidates a unique opportunity to engage in collaborative research, teacher preparation, and innovation across vibrant programs in special education, early childhood education, and multilingual education in a diverse university, local, and regional context. Programs in the Department of Early Childhood, Multilingual, and Special Education partner closely with inclusive special education programs in public school and community settings and the selected candidate would have opportunities to engage in research, teacher preparation, and service within this environment. The selected candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an active research and scholarship agenda, with expectations to seek external funding to support that agenda. Additionally, the selected candidate will be required to maintain an active program of teaching (e.g., advising, recruiting, and mentoring students; developing and teaching courses) and service, with interdisciplinary collaboration across early childhood, multilingual, and special education faculty in the department. The selected candidate will teach and advise students in undergraduate and graduate degree teacher preparation programs leading to licensure in special education, as well as endorsement in English Language Acquisition and Development. Preferred qualifications include: * Expertise in teacher education and experience teaching in higher education. * Expertise in evidence-based practices to support the academic, behavioral, and/or social-emotional outcomes of diverse students with disabilities in Generalist settings (e.g., inclusive classrooms, resource rooms). * Evidence of applying for, or successfully securing, external funding related to research or teaching. * Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration (e.g., early childhood, general, or multilingual education) within scholarly or teacher education settings. * Experience in the development of innovative programs in special education and the development of coursework or curriculum in special education teacher education. * Experience monitoring and coordinating data related to the effectiveness of teacher education programs and making recommendations for program revision and improvement.
