Summary: Xencor is looking for a highly motivated biochemist Scientist to join our Protein Chemistry team focusing on protein isolation and characterization. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact to the therapeutic discovery. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Protein Engineering, Antibody Discovery, Molecular Analysis and Biophysics teams to advance therapeutic molecule in research and development portfolio. Job duties: * Purification and characterization of antibodies and recombinant proteins produced from various mammalian expression systems using affinity and traditional chromatography. * Characterize proteins by analytical chromatography, CE-SDS and MALS. * Implementation and maintenance of automated protein purification methods as appropriate. * Participation in a highly matrixed cross-functional group. * Active hands-on participation in experiments is expected. * Maintain detailed record and communicating results to relevant teams. * The ideal candidate will self-driven, able to work in a fast-paced environment, and passionate about learning/implementing new technologies that enhance the discovery process. Job Qualifications: * Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemical Biology, Molecular or a related field with 2 or more years of industry experience. * Hands-on experience with the design, development, and optimization in recombinant protein purification/characterization techniques across multiple platforms and technologies is a must (e.g., FPLC, HPLC, CE-SDS, cIEF). * Ability to perform method development, write protocols, maintain detailed records and inventory are required. * Broad experience in protein chemistry, automation, structural biology, protein formulation, stability assessments, mass spectroscopy, protein labelling and conjugation techniques is highly desired. * Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must. * Excellent organizational skills passionate about adaptive learning, critical thinking, and the ability to work well in a team. Physical, Mental and Environment Demands: The physical, mental and working environment demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this position. The physical demands of the office are normally associated with extended amounts of time sitting and using office equipment, including a computer, keyboard and mouse, which can cause muscle strain. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Periodic light lifting of supplies and materials may apply. Occasional travel may be required, including travel between Xencor's Monrovia and San Diego offices.
