READING SPECIALIST / READING TEACHER

Manville School, a well-established and reputable educational program, is seeking a Reading Specialist / Reading Teacher for children ages, 7-14. Collaborate with small, multidisciplinary classroom teams, administer and interpret formal and informal reading assessments, and write reports, indicating recommendations and treatment plans.

Provide direct reading services and instruction to students with identified language learning deficits in 1:1 sessions, small groups, or within the classroom setting. Together with educational staff, develop reading and written language goals and objectives, and collect data to measure outcomes for IEPs, for a caseload of up to 10 children. Consult with, coach, and train teachers on students' reading disabilities and science of reading methodology, and individualized accommodations.

Collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team environment and engage in professional development opportunities that will enrich your knowledge.

  • Do you have an M. Ed in Special Education, with MA licensure in Special Ed. or Reading/Literacy?


  • Do you have experience providing direct instruction, utilizing evidence-based approaches to children with reading disabilities?

Job Requirements:
  • Establish proper reading level placement
  • Determine eligibility for reading services
  • Coordinating and implementing elementary school reading program
  • Give demonstration lessons in the teaching of reading
  • Documenting staff professional development in reading and writing
  • Assess the reading needs of students and communicate to classroom teachers and parents
  • Interpret pupil need and reading progress to classroom teachers and parents
  • Provide reading resources for teachers, aides and parents
  • Assist with placing students in appropriate reading and writing intervention and support services
  • Act as a resource teacher in reading to regular classroom teachers by assisting in organizing reading program, selecting materials, suggesting teaching techniques
  • Creating and implementing a small group reading rotation schedule
  • Administer and analyze reading diagnostic and progress monitoring assessments
  • Using phonics-based, language-based or specially designed reading programs
  • Support teachers and work collaboratively to implement a quality reading program
  • Provide direct instruction in the areas of reading and writing for identified students in both individual and small group instruction
  • Indicating increases in student state assessment reading scores - 80% of students who take state assessments
  • Use classroom instruction and group participation activities to assist program participants in learning basic math, reading, writing skills, vocabulary, grammar; publishing skills including proofreading
  • Indicate effective monitoring of the fidelity and usage of the reading software program
  • Identify the literacy needs of students
  • Instructing students individually or in groups to enable students to develop literacy skills
