Summary of Major Responsibilities:
The Senior Histotechnologist will perform highly skilled histology and operational activities in a fast paced and complex operation. This role will perform accurate cutting on patient specimens, immunohistochemistry stain (IHC) operations, standard operating procedure (SOP) development, process development, regulatory compliance, interact with sending sites and ordering physicians, perform quality control and specimen-related checks, and comply with all applicable local, state, and federal laboratory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include:Maintain stringent standards for quality to identify any issues that might adversely impact the quality of test results and/or employee safety. Communicate issues to the appropriate management representatives to ensure prompt resolution, as needed.Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in histology, to include sectioning, and hematoxylin and eosin (H) staining under supervision. Independently monitor and process the histology queue for various tasks that need to be performed, with minimal supervision.Perform macro-dissection of samples under supervision.Process samples through the IHC process under supervision. Write nonconformance reports (NCRs) and deviation approval requests (DARs) according to quality assurance team outline and acceptability. Prepare reagents, solutions, and controls.Perform and document equipment maintenance and calibration.Assist in sample returns, as needed.Interact with internal pathologists, associates, and external customers in accordance with SOPs to ensure specimens are processed in a timely manner with high quality.Process specimens for research and development sponsored studies.Assist in the identification of opportunities for process improvements for histopathology. Assist in workflow, protocol, and related SOP development.Assist in equipment specification, installation, and maintenance.Participate in various studies.Provide guidance and training to research and development (R) staff relating to histopathology.Provide summary reports on process metrics as, needed.Train new staff, as needed.Identify opportunities for process, material, vendors, and other improvements for histopathology. Contribute to corporate strategy for inspection preparation or additional regulatory approval relating to histopathology.Assist in running projects for development of histopathology around new product services and processes.Ability to integrate and apply feedback in a professional manner.Ability to prioritize and drive to results with a high emphasis on quality.Apply strong attention to detail. Ability to work independently and within a team environment.Apply strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work standing for approximately 25% of a typical working day.Ability to lift up to 25 pounds for approximately 10% of a typical working day.Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.Ability to use various types of laboratory equipment; including microscopes, microtomes, blades, strainers, and pipettes for extended periods of time. May perform repetitious actions using lab tools. Ability to use near vision to view samples at close range.May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens, and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation.

Qualifications:
Minimum QualificationsBachelors Degree in Life Sciences, or field as outlined in the essential duties.6+ years of histology lab experience with competency in dissection/scraping, microtomy/cutting, embedding, and routine staining. Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation. Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship. Preferred QualificationsExperience with digital pathology.Experience with IDC processing. American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification, Histotechnician (HT) ASCP or Histotechnologist (HTL) ASCP. Knowledge of Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), and College of American Pathologists (CAP) regulations.
