Job Description
The Teacher Aide assists the teacher ensuring that the classroom is in compliance with Early Head Start performance standards and U.C.C.A.C., Inc. Head Start Education Plan.

Qualifications:
  • HS diploma or equivalent, minimum of one year working with young children, preferably in a pre- school setting.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in the role of the parent as a primary educator of the child.
  • Willingness to obtain CDA credentials, CPR and First Aid certification within the time frame established by the program.
  • Reliable means of personal transportation and valid NYS drivers license.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and agility required to move at children's level including bending, squatting, and kneeling.


  • Responsibilities: The Teacher Aide will:
  • Assist the teacher in providing a safe and healthy learning environment that is welcoming to parents and supports and respects gender, culture, language, ethnicity and family composition.
  • Assist in providing and environment and implementing a curriculum that encourages the development of self awareness, autonomy and self expression and supports the emerging skills of children.
  • Assist in planning for routines and transitions so that they occur in a timely, predictable and unrushed manner according to each child=s needs.
  • With the parent/guardian and center team, identify strengths, needs and interest of the child and develop individual plans.
  • Participate in classroom planning sessions to develop both individual and weekly lesson plans and be able to work with the teacher to provide a balanced daily program of child-initiated and adult-directed activities.
  • Ensure all procedures of the component plan are followed including participation in home visits, assessments, student records, child assessments, case conferences and individual plans.
  • Assist teacher to integrate the educational aspects of the program into other Early Head Start service areas.
  • Manage assigned classroom in the absence of the teacher including supervision of volunteers.
  • Attend all staff meetings, in-services and training. Attendance at parent meetings is required only if parents request teachers presence
  • Assist to ensure that all classroom materials and supplies are kept clean and in good repair; submit yearly inventory as requested
  • Perform any other program/agency related duties as requested by the Education Services Specialist, Education Assistant, Supervisor or Program Director.
