DLHs portfolio consists of Defense & Veteran Health Solutions, Human Services Solutions and Public Health & Life Sciences.SSS is currently seeking a SAS Programmer for Public Health Research to serve on a multidisciplinary team that conducts analyses and reports on findings from clinical- and population-based epidemiological studies on behalf of the federal government. The studies we conduct focus on the impact of the physical and social environment on human health and well-being, as well as genetic, occupational, and lifestyle risk factors. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes data managers, analysts, and operations staff. You will provide data management support for these studies by developing programs to build study datasets, as well as to generate reports to inform the progress of the studies and to summarize the study data from a scientific and operational perspective. This position offers opportunities for professional development, innovation, and collaboration across disciplines.Our ideal candidate for this position would have an MPH (or similar advanced degree), prior experience conducting public health research, prior project management experience, and prior experience working directly with clients. Strong critical thinking skills, independent problem solving skills, excellent communication skills, and exceptional attention to detail are essential.

Consulting directly with clients to gather requirements, write project plans, develop and monitor a schedule for deliverables, mitigate risks to the schedule, and produce and present deliverablesActively collaborating with other data managers and staff from other functional areas to plan, implement, monitor, and complete assignmentsIndependently developing, revising, testing and quality control of SAS programs for a variety of analytic and operational projects, including the creation of analytical datasets and fulfillment of data requests both internally and externallyDeveloping, testing and validating data collection procedures and data management systems, such as REDCap and CTDBConstructing codebooks and format filesFormatting tables and compiling reportsProducing graphical outputSupervising work and mentoring junior staff as needed

Masters in Public Health or an advanced degree in a related field. Relevant prior experience will be considered in the absence of an advanced degree5 or more years of prior experience using SAS for data management, which includes writing programs for cleaning and reporting of study data as well as generating analytical datasetsStrong project management experience including planning, scheduling, and managing your own work and the work of others, monitoring deliverables, and risk mitigation for schedulesFamiliarity with relational databases and electronic data capture systems is highly desirableDemonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills when interfacing with colleagues, project leaders, and clientsApplies a systematic approach to complete tasks that involve ambiguity, uncertainty, and other challengesEmbraces and engages in thinking outside the box when faced with difficult challenges DLH is committed to fostering a diverse workforce and is proud to be an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer of Minorities/Women/Protected Veterans/Individuals with Disabilities.
