The National Director Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is responsible for creation, leading and development a field facing organization team within the Medical Affairs Department at Emergent BioSolutions. He/She is responsible for establishing the key stakeholders to support the development of a national team that would support multiple products across Emergent. This includes cultivating and maintaining relationships with National stakeholders that may include key opinion leaders, pharmacists, nurses, first responders, payers, Integrated Delivery Networks and others to deliver clinical, scientific, pharmacoeconomic, and technical information related to the particular therapeutic area needs. The National Director, Medical Affairs is responsible for leveraging his or her scientific background, industry knowledge, and business acumen to lead an MSL field team to engage in appropriate, fair and balanced communication with scientific stakeholders in an assigned territory. He/She will provide oversight of research initiatives, advisory boards, publications, education, and other scientific activities to support Medical Affairs initiatives. Further, he/she will provide cross functional support for product and pipeline therapeutic area needs to address inquiries from scientific stakeholders. He/she will serve as a scientific expert to internal and external stakeholders. The role will report to the Sr. Director Medical Affairs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Develop, create, and lead a national field facing MSL team in support of Emergent products.
Establish goals/objectives for measuring the value of a field team based on alignment to Key Strategic Imperatives.
Responsible for the Day-to-Day leadership, development, and metrics for a field MSL team.
Develop long-term & valued relationships with key stakeholders as they relate to the key strategic imperatives with key internal stakeholders
Foster and identification of key opportunities for scientific growth and medical evidence generation for the support of current approved and pipeline products.
Creation of strategic engagement plans that align with medical strategy.
Provide relevant, unbiased medical and scientific information to meet the unique needs of each customer.
Leads, prepares and delivers fair balanced and comprehensive presentations and responses to clinical and scientific audiences in managed care, Medicare, or Medicaid, plan medical, pharmacy directors, first responders, integrated delivery network institutions and stakeholders.
Serve as medical and scientific resource to KOLs, HCPs, first responders, payers, managed markets, and others reactively responding to medical inquiries.
Facilitate development of scientific materials to support scientific exchange aligned with medical strategy.
Support the ongoing scientific dialogue with the Managed Care audience as it relates to clinical information, scientific discussions, and health economics outcomes research (HEOR).
Capture, share and identify insights from various engagement activities
Attend and share insights from key medical/scientific congresses
Communicate Emergents value and mission to key stakeholders
Work cross-functionally with internal teams and departments to provide scientific support as needed
Ensure and maintain compliance with all company policies, laws, industry, and regulatory requirements

III. MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS
Advanced scientific or clinical/medical degree required (MD, DO, PharmD, PhD) plus significant experience in medical affairs and managed markets activities
7 to 10 years as a Sr. Medical Science Liaison with experience addressing scientific and clinical issues with HCPs as well as in managed care, market access, Medicaid and Medicare
4 years of experience in managing and leading a field facing MSL team
Strong leadership skills
Experience or knowledge with working with integrated delivery networks
Robust experience in KOL management activities/CRM Tool utilization
Strong scientific knowledge as well as excellent presentation and teaching skills.
Working understanding of pharmaceutical industry compliance, PhRMA code, FDA guidance on advertising and promotion of prescription drug and medical devices
Experience with managed markets and delivery of presentations to payer groups
Ability to interpret and communicate scientific data to various audiences
Experience facilitating research projects and IME requests
Self-starter with a strong team orientation
Proven leadership abilities
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, complex and dynamic environment, work independently with minimal supervision
Strong work ethic
Proven ability to collaborate and make connections with both internal and external stakeholders
Ability to manage a demanding schedule, and be flexible with evolving priorities
Strong overall written, verbal, interpersonal communication skills, customer focus and emotional intelligence
2+ years experience using standard tools of field-based employees (CRM, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams)
Ability to travel 50% of the time
