Microbiologist II

Overview:
SUMMARY Perform filter bacterial challenge tests, bioburden, sterility, LAL (endotoxin) tests, and read environmental monitoring test results on day shifts to support manufacturing, R and Quality departments.

Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:Utilize knowledge of asceptic techniques as required.Validate filter devices by challenging filters with bacteria and other microorganisms per ASTM F838, custom and standardized procedures. Draft reports based on standard templates.Test samples for bioburden or sterility, according to standardized procedures.Perform routine environmental monitoring of water systems and cleanrooms. Monitor and calibrate laboratory equipment. Perform endotoxin (LAL), bioburden and sterility testing on products.Maintain water systems, e.g. request filter and resin bed changes as required.Perform compatibility, bubble point and filterability studies with customer products. Draft reports based on standard templates.Maintain test records and laboratory notebooks. Assist in drafting and updating SOPs.Order supplies. Follow up on orders as required.Isolate and maintain cultures of significant bacteria, yeast or bacteriophage in prescribed or standard media, controlling factors such as moisture, aeration, temperature, and nutrition.Identify microorganisms by microscopic examination of physiological, morphological, and cultural characteristics.Adjust controls of equipment such as pumps, filters and autoclaves to obtain optimum results.Prepare growth media from powders following recipes. Measure and weigh ingredients, mix, sterilize, pour into containers, seal and affix identification labels. Wash glassware as necessary for laboratory use.
