Bachoco OK Foods is seeking an EHS Compliance Specialist for our Fort Smith, AR plant operations.

Summary: The Compliance Specialist is responsible for providing management, oversight, and direction of the Environmental Health and Safety program for the O.K. Foods, Inc. locations as directed. Ensures environmental, health and safety compliance with federal, state and local regulatory EHS requirements, Follows policies, EHS standards, and procedures. Supports Corporate EHS Strategy and Objectives, contributes to development and implementation of site-specific EHS programs and promotes facility alignment with same. Promotes a culture of EHS excellence at the facility and provides high-quality EHS technical leadership to management team members. As a key member of the site leadership team provides advice and counsel and communicates critical EHS issues to the site and corporate management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Ensure compliance in areas of safety through risk assessments, self-audits and incident investigations.
  • Assist in the development of controls to reduce or eliminate hazards found in the workplace.
  • Responsible to keep current with all new and pending OSHA, ANSI, NFPA regulations that might have an impact upon the business.
  • Provide information and guidance to management on safety issues as they affect current and proposed processes, equipment and procedures including the review of all new projects.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures in the facility to ensure safe and efficient operation of Poultry Operation and to ensure regulatory compliance at all times.
  • Maintain all records and reports as directed by regulatory agencies and corporate Safety.
  • Assist Security in maintaining an effective site security program.
  • Oversee the Emergency Response Plan/Emergency Action Plan and Safety policies for compliance.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of management, directing operations personnel and project teams as appropriate. This includes informing site management and corporate Risk Management of regulatory and operational issues impacting the site (current and emerging).
  • Serves as the local expert in Safety regulatory issues and directs compliance activities on these matters.
  • Ensures that management is aware of potential issues & corporate Risk Management informed of developments.

Qualifications

Practical work experience in Safety and/or environmental health science related positions with Poultry Processing companies, including knowledge of incident investigation, OSHA reporting requirements, evidence of same is desired.

Education and/or Experience

College degree or in the process of completing and OSHA 30 hour approved course completion in general Industry. Other health/sciences or work experience in the Poultry Production Safety field

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Skills

To apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration

Must have a valid driver's license and must be able to qualify for the company Driver Program.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully an individual should have practical knowledge of Microsoft office programs including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Past experience building and maintaining spreadsheets and work in a Learning Management System or other matter management software system.

Other Qualifications

Highly organized and able to think systemically to structure the work and design in a logical flow. Other key attributes include: self-motivated, organized, computer literate, attention to detail and follow through with exceptional writing and communication skills.
