Position Summary:

Performs duties necessary to create and maintain a culture of compliance with applicable environmental and safety laws and regulations. Develop, implement and administer a district-wide environmental and safety compliance program.

Primary Duties Performed:

Maintains environmental health and safety plan for compliance with all applicable environmental laws and regulations.
Manages contracts with third party vendors for regulated waste removal in compliance with state and federal regulations.
Prepares and submits annual hazardous waste report to Department of Natural Resources.
Conducts district-wide safety and environmental training for personnel responsible for regulated waste disposal, discharge of waste, safe use and storage of hazardous materials and other areas subject to local, state, and federal environmental regulation.
Conducts district-wide training as required by law, regulation, and best practices to reduce risk of injuries and appropriate response to injury.
Maintains, in collaboration with human resources and other college personnel, protocols for response to work-place injuries and response to injuries to students and members of the public.
Conducts district-wide visits to inspect facilities, monitor operations, and observe programs to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations and policy provisions; confers with management and staff to initiate corrective action as authorized; prepares compliance reports and makes recommendations to the General Counsel.
Participates in annual loss control audits which are conducted by the insurance representatives annually in the district and campuses.
Follows up on inquiries and answers routine questions regarding environmental, safety, and regulatory compliance; in consultation with General Counsel, researches and recommends solutions to environmental and safety-related problems.
Conducts accident investigations, reviews and investigates injury and accident reports from security and college campuses; prepares appropriate documentation; conducts safety meetings as needed; maintains accident statistics.
Determines appropriate safety equipment and safe work practices for specific jobs based on OSHA and other regulatory standard, and implements accordingly.
Prepares documents and monitors all activity regarding risk management claims to include damage to property, buildings, vehicles, and other liability issues as needed.
Attends training, at least annually, on Hazardous Waste Management (RCRA) and on OSHA worker safety and construction standards.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Industrial Hygiene or Safety Science or Engineering with over three (3) years of related experience in environmental or industrial safety.
40 hours HAZWOPER certification required. Certification must be attained within 30 days of hire if certification is not current.
Valid Driver's License required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate Safety Professional (ASP) Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
Experience in Higher Education is preferred.

Salary Range:

$61,252 - $67,990 annually
