The primary focus of the EHS Manager is to provide leadership and implement safety and environmental programs and or processes with a focus on accident/illness prevention, environmental awareness, employee health and safety awareness, and to drive a Safety-First culture. The EHS department is responsible for supporting operations with regards to safety and environmental initiatives including but not limited to an accident-free workplace, OSHA voluntary Protection Program, ISO 14001, regulatory compliance, accident investigation, internal audits, training, and general safety and environmental awareness. Direct the EH&S program to ensure regulatory compliance to reduce workplace hazards and control losses due to accidents, injuries, or illnesses.
Develop and administer the EH&S budget, manage vendors allocated for EH&S and PPE.
Serve as a "VOICE FOR SAFETY"
Administer the safety training program for all company employees and on-sire contractors.
Drive continuous improvement in human, equipment, chemical and facility safety, and housekeeping
Facilitate and lead plant wide EH&S team
Prepare, update, and maintain all required EH&S reports, regulatory agency submittals, and operating permits while ensuring the EH &S records is accurate and up to date
Administer and maintain STAR certification under the OSHA voluntary Protection Program
Administer and maintain ISO 14001 certification
Develop and evaluate the written EH&S policies and programs
Manage permit requirements, hazardous waste programs, and ensure that hazardous wastes are stored and transported in accordance with applicable rules and regulations
Conduct and coordinate regulatory compliance audits and ensure the timely closure of any findings. Implements programs and processes necessary to close any of the issues identified.
Complete incident investigations and analysis, regularly perform site hazard assessments and workplace ergonomic analysis.
Work closely with Human Resources and Operations to decrease Workers' Compensation claims as well as cost
Active Member of Plant Leadership Team
Report performance metrics up through the organization to the appropriate groups
Responsible for site-wide security, waste water, and recycling BACKGROUND PROFILE: Bachelor's degree required; Masters preferred
Minimum of seven years of Manufacturing/Environmental Health & Safety experience is required or a minimum ten (10) years' experience in a leadership position in a manufacturing environment with a strong safety culture and demonstrated safety results.
Implementation of a process-based safety investigation program
Understanding of ergonomic principles
BI-lingual in Spanish preferred
Good understanding of OSHA safety and environmental regulations applicable to the operation / OSHA 30 certification a plus
Excellent leadership and coaching skills including the ability to build and influence relationships throughout all levels of the facility
Ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks and work independently - with strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and solid computer skills to include but not limited to MS Office software applications with advanced skills in Excel and Access
