Summary: Wausau Supply Co. (WSC) is looking for a responsible Safety and Environmental Manager to facilitate compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) guidelines. The Safety and Environmental Manager recognizes opportunities for safety improvements and provides advice on measures to minimize hazards or unhealthy situations. A passionate Safety and Environmental Manager will have the ability to foster a culture of attention to health and safety, which is our goal at WSC.

Duties to include, (but not limited to):

Organizational Responsibilities:

· Supporting the development of OHS policies and programs

· Advising and instructing on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery, etc.)

· Conducting risk assessment and enforcing preventative measures

· Support the development of OHS policies and programs

· Conduct risk assessment and enforce preventative measures

· Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation

· Initiate and organize OHS training of employees and executives

· Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g. not using protective equipment)

· Oversee installations, maintenance, disposal of substances etc.

· Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy

· Record and investigate incidents to determine causes and handle worker's compensation claims

· Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management

· Ensuring regular site inspections and environmental analysis is complete

· Preparation of environmental reports tracking department performance against targets/expectations

· Maintain an effective administration system, ensuring that all environmental checks are recorded and records maintained per environmental system requirements

A successful candidate will possess and/or demonstrate the ability to:

· Proven experience and passion with OHS and environmental

· In depth knowledge of legislation (e.g. OSHA/EPA) and procedures

· Conscientiousness and the ability to be farsighted to focus on prevention

· To be detail oriented and ready to act in emergencies

· Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices

· Interpersonal skills to communicate and direct all levels of the organization in respects to enforcing safety

· Experience in writing reports and policies for health and safety

· Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics

· Proficient in MS Office; Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus

· Outstanding organizational skills

· Diligent with great attention to detail

· Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics

Education / Experience:

· BSc/BA in safety and environmental management or relevant field is preferred

· Certificate in occupational health and safety

· 5-10 years experience as a Safety Professional in a fast paced Manufacturing and Distribution environment
