Environmental Health & Safety Specialist (full-time)

Louisville Operations

Carbide Industries in Louisville operates the only submerged Electrical Arc Furnace for the manufacture of Calcium Carbide in North America, providing the chemical energy needed to drive industrial innovation in steelmaking, foundry operations, acetylene production and chemical intermediates.

We currently have a full-time salaried job opening in Louisville for an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to work with our EHS Department. This position will report to our EHS Manager and provide support for our Louisville and Calvert City locations.

Job Requirements:

This Position May Include, But Not Limited To:
  • Assist our EHS Manager with various project duties
  • Learn the particular hazards of our plant areas and assist in Safety & Housekeeping Audits
  • Perform trend studies on incident reports and assist in developing improvement goals
  • Create and update documentation such as training records, presentations, and reports
  • Evaluate data collection systems, make recommendations and updates
  • Assist in workers compensation case management
  • Conduct risk assessments related to jobs performed (Job Hazard Analysis) and new equipment introductions
  • Partner with production teams to investigate incidents to identify root cause(s) and how they might be prevented


Minimum Requirements

The successful candidate for this position will possess the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science or a related field
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards (OSHA, NFPA, etc.) and national consensus standards (ANSI)
  • Physical, Background Check & Drug Screen required
  • Occasional travel required
  • Detail-oriented with very strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, yet self-starting and results-oriented
  • Ability to effectively communicate Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

Work Environment:

Moving machinery, dust, heat, cold and noise. Occasional use of a respirator, work at heights, within confined spaces. Daily PPE consists of hardhat, safety glasses, safety shoes and hearing protection.
