The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is recruiting to fill a Park Ranger 3 for the Cascade Foothills Area (North). Park Ranger 3's lead routine operations within a park or park area and serve as the primary catalyst for implementing the area management plan from a concept or vision into operation. As a Park Ranger 3 you will be coaching, mentoring, supervising and leading your park team while coordinating multiple long term plans and projects important to the successful operation of the park or area. You will be a part of a collaborative environment where you'll be empowered to share your creative ideas and support area operations through coordination, planning and execution. ___________________________ This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time, permanent, Park Ranger 3 position at Saint Edward State Park in King County, Washington. Housing is NOT available at this time. Employees who have workstations located in King county receive a 5% premium pay in addition to the salary listed. This posting will remain open until filled. This position serves as the Assistant Area Manager for the Cascade Foothills Area North by implementing area strategies based on the mission and goals as defined by the Area Manager. This position serves as the expert level Law Enforcement Officer for the area. The Park Ranger 3 supports administration, supervision, maintenance, and public service within the Park management area. Duties include, but are not limited to: * Perform administrative duties as the Operations Manager for park area, implementing area strategies based on mission and goals as defined by Area Manager. * Assess operational needs of the North Cascade Foothills Area; raise issues with Area Manager. * Develop logistical plans for completion of park projects. * Provide oversight for day to day operations of park area. * Utilize data driven evidence when determining proper use of staff time and classifications. * Attend meetings and provide oversight when supervisor is unavailable. * Develop or update emergency snow operation plan for Mount Spokane. Work with local fire districts and the Washington Department of Natural Resources to develop emergency response protocols to fires in area of responsibility. * Develop and manage special projects in collaboration with work groups, weed boards, wildlife departments and other outside entities. * Implement LEAN tools and principles in park area. * Assist Area Manager with development and maintenance of Operational Planning & Reports, such as but not limited to, staffing and overtime plan, security of assets, law enforcement plan, and emergency management plan. * Perform duties as the lead Law Enforcement Ranger for park area. * Maintain expertise of rules and regulations necessary to perform Law Enforcement duties. * Maintain Law Enforcement Commission, completing required annual training as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. * Schedule appropriate Law Enforcement coverage based on demonstrable park needs. * Provide shift Law Enforcement coverage within jurisdictional parameters, rule enforcement, visitor education, and protection. * Provide local Law Enforcement outreach/coordination/communication (police agencies, courts. fire department). * Ensure all area Law Enforcement staff attend required quarterly training and in-service. * Ensure that proper Law Enforcement safety requirements/practices are met. * Participate in maintenance functions within park area. * Assist with setting maintenance priorities for area. * Assign, schedule, and complete lower level maintenance projects for park area, where journey level skills are not required. * Assist with emergent maintenance issues as needed. * Ensure all safety requirements are met on job site. Ensure that all tools and equipment are in good working order and safe for use. * Responsible for care and upkeep of major park equipment. * Coordinate with Area Manager on budget needs regarding maintenance and equipment. * Assist in coordination of region crew/HQ on special projects; provide logistical support. * Supervise staff and volunteers following all applicable Agency policies and procedures; statewide rules and regulations; and the Collective Bargaining Agreement. * Provide oversight and instruction to staff. * Facilitate hiring for vacant positions. * Timely complete Position Description form, as necessary. * Complete PDPs on an annual basis. * Ensure staff meet all training requirements. * Supervise and provide oversight for work groups and volunteers. * Leadership to area staff as defined by Area Manager. * Create an environment of collaborative teamwork and respect for all employees. Address concerns in a timely and effective manner. * Provide appropriate mentorship opportunities in order to improve skills and abilities for staff. * Represent Area. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor's Degree * Two (2) years of professional experience as a Park Ranger, Commissioned Law Enforcement Officer, or equivalent experience in a Natural Resource field. * Successful completion of a qualifying law enforcement academy (BLEA, POST, PLEA, or SLETP). * Valid unrestricted (except for corrective lenses) driver's license. Experience in a Natural Resource or Recreation field will substitute year for year for education. Every one year of experience as a commissioned Washington State Park Ranger can be substituted for two years of education. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Supervisory experience. * Project planning experience.
