We are searching for an Environmental Health and Safety Partner to be based at either plant in Augusta, GA or Jeffersonville, IN.

  • We are not offering relocation or visa sponsorship for this role at this time.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Provide primary EHS support to PQ plant operations. Additional responsibilities and changes in responsibilities may be made at the discretion of the PQ Corporation VP EHS.
  • Analyze the work environment and develop programs designed to control, eliminate, and prevent occupational disease and/or injury and/or environmental harm caused by physical, chemical, biological agents or ergonomic factors.
  • Provide technical support to front line leadership on matters related to occupational health, safety, security, environmental compliance, process safety (HAZOP), and loss prevention.
  • Conduct field and site inspections to enforce adherence to laws, regulations and employer policies governing occupational safety and environmental compliance.
  • Assist with the collection of data required to satisfy environmental permit and reporting requirements (air, water, waste regulatory requirements).
  • Prepare reports for use by company personnel and regulatory agencies, including Compliance calendar.
  • Develop and manage initiatives to promote a proactive safety culture, including programs designed to increase employee involvement, education, and recognition by participation in safety committees, incident investigations, training, and compliance auditing.
  • Collect and interpret EHS data to identify trends and/or causal factors, such as system failure, human error, incomplete or faulty decision-making, or a weakness in existing policies or practices or regulations.
  • Investigate incidents and non-compliance events to determine contributing factors and recommend remedial action to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies on matters related to reporting and/or investigating compliance concerns including work related injury log maintenance.
  • Develop and deliver regulatory required training related to health, safety, and environment.
  • Apply EHS management systems to conform to standards such as RC14001, ISO14001, ISO45001, etc.
  • Manage EHS projects at assigned sites.
  • Participation in company sponsored auditing including PQP, RC/ISO, and EHS Compliance, as well as site level audits (housekeeping, security, radiation, permits, and contractors). Other audits maybe included based on experience.
  • Develop and maintain site level EHS plans, programs, and procedures in collaboration with site operations.
  • Provide support and assist the Behavior Based Safety (BBS) and Joint Health and Safety committees to resolve open items and issues.
  • Analyzes and interprets reports from consultants and makes recommendations for additional testing and fieldwork as required.
  • Conduct EHS reviews of capital projects and work with engineering & plant management on solutions to EHS issues.


Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree related to environmental health and safety, engineering, or related discipline is preferred.
  • Analyzes and interprets reports from consultants and makes recommendations for additional testing and field work as required.
  • At least 5 years experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, Microsoft office software, and computer skills.
  • Must be an independent, self-motivated individual with the ability to multi task and administer a broad range of duties including; resolving complaints, counseling employees and providing technical interpretation of policies and procedures.
  • Ability to perform physical inspections of office area, warehouses, utility spaces, construction work areas, and manufacturing areas.
  • Ability to coach, teach and counsel and be comfortable speaking to groups. Must be able to work independently without day-to-day supervision.
  • Excellent knowledge of federal, state, and local health, safety, environment and security regulations.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret state/provincial and local regulations, professional journals, and technical procedures.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel; knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations, protocols and/or procedures.
  • Travel to support assigned area. Ability to travel up to 50%.
