The successful candidate will lead the Oncology Translational Research Computational Biology group, which is responsible for data analysis and Bioinformatics support for Oncology therapeutic development.

In This Role, You Will
  • Lead a group of computational biologists and work in close collaboration with scientists in Discovery, Translational Medicine, Data Sciences and other important internal and external partners
  • Identify and develop applications of bioinformatics and computational research to solve challenges in Translational Research and other areas of drug development
  • Represent Translational Research as a leader in the Janssen R&D community by sharing vision and goals on key capabilities and projects.
  • Analyze and integrate high dimensional data from a variety of platforms including next-generation sequencing, gene expression, SNP, RBM, and IHC
  • Provide data analysis and statistical support to identify diseases mechanisms, mode of action for therapeutic interventions, and candidate biomarkers
  • Oversee collaborations and contractor support
  • Build, analyze, and interpret biological networks from disparate data sources
  • Develop and communicate computational strategies and results in appropriate biological context, and present results to bench scientists, clinicians, and management
  • Participate on multidisciplinary teams for discovery, preclinical and clinical development, biomarker and translational research
  • Actively interface with the internal and external scientific and technical community, including the building of relationships in this community.
  • Lead technology evaluations and software/database usage training

Qualifications
  • A Ph.D., Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or Biostatistics with 10+ years of relevant industry experience is required
  • Stong background in cancer biology and cancer genetics research is required.
  • Experience working and communicating with multidisciplinary teams in a fast paced environment is required.
  • Proficient with statistical and biological data visualization software tools and methods (such as R/BioConductor) is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of public and commercial biological databases (e.g. NCBI Entrez, NCBI GEO, UCSC Genome Browser, TCGA/caBIG, Oncomine, GeneGo, Ingenuity) is required.
  • Self-motivated and proven effective leader of teams is required.
  • Excellent presentation and oral/written communication skills is required.
  • Demonstrated scientific excellence by a strong publication record and/or evidence of scientific initiative is required.
  • Bioinformatics experience working with high dimensional data, gene expression analysis, survival analysis, and biological network reconstruction/inference is required.
  • Statistical analysis experience with working knowledge of regression analysis, multivariate data analysis, and linear/nonlinear mixed effects modeling is required.
  • Familiarity with classification and machine learning methods, and how they are applied to the life sciences is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of software/code architecture, (e.g. R/BioConductor, Perl, Python) and how these languages are applied to address biologic problems is preferred.
  • Comfortable working in Unix/Linux environment is preferred.
  • Other high level programming (Java, C++, etc.) and database (e.g. MySQL, Postgres, Oracle) experience a plus.
  • This position is to be located in Spring House, PA and may required up to 10% travel domestic or internationally.
