Asbestos Lab Analyst- North Chesterfield, VA 23236

Permanent Position

Core Skills:

• Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM)/ Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM)
• EPA standards adhere lab safety protocol
• PLM- Experienced Asbestos Polarized Light Analysts, preferred but not required

About the company:

• This will be working for an environmental testing laboratory offering multiple services such as asbestos, chemistry and lead, microbiology identification, and forensic testing.

About the position:

• Sample processing, documentation, and preparation.
• Analysis of bulk and thin-section slides for asbestos mineral fibers using PLM.
• Determination of optical properties and visual percentages for detected asbestos grains
• Quantification of asbestos present, and identification of additional natural/artificial sample components. Document asbestos findings and characteristics in LIMS.
• Implementation of quality control procedures. Adherence to lab safety protocols.
• Adherence to EPA standards for asbestos identification

Requirements:

• Must have an undergraduate degree in Geology, Environmental Sciences, related science, or PLM Asbestos training course
• Adhere to lab safety protocols and implement safety measures such as fume hoods, PPE, and sample containment

Preferred, but not required:

• PLM experience in asbestos testing
• Courses in mineralogy, petrology, sedimentology, or materials science
• Research assistant or undergraduate research involving metamorphic petrology, microscopy sample prep, and mineral identification
