A new, ambitious, stealth biotech company has been launched and successfully funded by one of the top venture firms in the industry, Polaris Partners. Founded by Bob Langer and Dan Anderson, this Boston-based company has a new platform technology for novel, targeted and ground-breaking therapeutics for various indications.

We are currently seeking an exceptional individual to join our growing Discovery Biology team as a Scientist, Skeletal Muscle and Cardiomyocyte biology in Greater Boston Area, MA. The candidate will be a motivated, independent researcher with deep expertise in cell biology, muscle biology, metabolism as applied to a drug discovery effort.

The successful candidate will lead development of cell based and in vivo assays, IF/IHC analysis, molecular biology assays, additionally, they will support drug discovery programs. The successful candidate will collaborate with Bioinformatics, Protein Engineering, Chemistry and other key functions to support the advancement of our portfolio of targeted nucleic acid therapies. As an active member of the drug discovery team, the candidate will apply their design skills and bring broad insight of Metabolism, Muscle Biology and other disciplines to bear on advancing our drug discovery projects. The position demands excellent people skills, a can-do-now attitude, and the ability to embrace our fast-paced team environment. The successful candidate will report to VP of Discovery Biology.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following
  • Design and execute challenging projects to advance our drug discovery objectives, support target prioritization. Project tracking (resources/timelines/deliverables) and future people management.
  • Generate novel, testable hypotheses to enable rapid, clear decision making.
  • Design and execute pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic characterization of novel experimental therapeutics in animal models, and generation of endpoint data
  • Collaborate with bioinformatics, protein engineers, chemists for platform development and lead optimization; manage CROs and interact with external partners
  • Provide updates on project status to team members and stakeholders
  • Generate and communicate study reports, data packages and related documentation, including for regulatory filings
  • Serve as a scientific expert in Skeletal Muscle and Cardiomyocyte biology and relevant with both internal and external partners.
  • Contribute to the business development evaluation of in-license and out-license opportunities


The Ideal Candidate Will Possess
  • Deep knowledge of skeletal muscle, cardiomyocytes and their role in various diseases.
  • Expertise in hands-on rodent pharmacology and preclinical modeling including study design, dosing, necropsy, tissue processing; strong molecular biology and assay development/implementation background (qPCR, bDNA, RNAseq, Western, ELISA, IF/IHC/histology, Fluorescent microscopy).
  • Experience with dosing (PO, IV, SQ, IM, IP) and bleeding (tail nicks, submandibular, intracardiac) of mice, Experience with various tissue and organ collection from mice
  • Experience in in vivo metabolic assays.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent documentation skills and familiarity with electronic notebook, strong organizational skills
  • Familiar with IACUC and compliance requirements
  • Deep knowledge and broad experience with mammalian cell culture and aseptic technique including cells lines, primary cells, progenitor cells
  • Track record of scientific excellence demonstrated by publications and/or patents.
  • Ability to interact with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and quickly changing environment
  • Scientific creativity, independent thought and decision-making ability.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.


Qualifications

  • PhD in Biology, Cell biology or similar disciplines, or MS
  • Postdoctoral or industrial experience preferred.
  • Job title will be commensurate with experience
