**Summary:**

Facebook is seeking a Research Scientist to join our Generative Biology team. The team, part of Facebook AI Research, pursues research on AI with the goal of learning biology in its native language. In this role, you will work closely with other scientists and engineers on the team to push the frontiers of representation learning and generative modeling in the life sciences domain. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in producing new science and tools for understanding and designing proteins, and is recognized as a deep expert in language modeling and representation learning for biological sequences.

**Required Skills:**

1. Develop novel model paradigms to extract information from protein sequence data.

2. Drive research into scaling models and data.

3. Develop novel predictive and generative models for proteins.

4. Collaborate with other FAIR scientists and engineers.

5. Influence progress of relevant research communities by producing publications.

**Minimum Qualifications:**

6. Currently has or in the process of obtaining PhD in Computer Science or related field.

7. Experience with machine learning for biology.

8. Experience in empirical research with language models.

9. Experience with PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow.

10. Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

11. Research and software engineering experience.

12. First-authored publications at peer-reviewed conferences or journals (e.g. NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, PNAS, Science, Nature, Nature Methods, or similar).

13. Research experience with transformers and other attention-based models.

14. Experience with biological sequence analysis tools such as HHblits, Jackhmmr, and structural modeling tools such as Rosetta/PyRosetta.
