HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION

The Director of Education is responsible for directing the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of training and educational programs; manages the education staff that conducts educational activities and develops/innovates new premium paid guest experiences. This position will collaborate with the Vice President of Wildlife Education Programs, the Safari Park and Conservation Science to ensure the educational programming aligns with the strategic vision of the organization. This position reports to the Vice President & Deputy Director.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

* Lead an innovative Education Department, including, but not limited to, creating and managing education programs, premium experiences and special projects in partnership with other campuses and internal education partners; ensure the administration of such programs and special events. Interview, hire, train and oversee performance management of staff
* Build and sustain a collaborative and engaged team, that is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion and access in order to be leaders in conservation education and guest experience
* Develop, administer and manage assigned budgets to increase margins to revenue generating programs and maximize resources for return on mission budgets
* Collaborate with Philanthropy and community partners to secure funding and report on grants, donations and endowments
* Collaborate with Animal Care to develop programming, ensure proper staff training and offer quality premium experiences

JOB EXPERIENCE

* Must have at least 5 years of experience in management or director level leadership in a zoo, museum, or other learning environment
* Experience in a formal learning environment preferred

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS

* Bachelor's Degree in Science, Education, related field or equivalent specialized training required
* Advanced Degree in related field preferred
* Teaching Certification
* Valid California Driver License upon hire

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

* Working knowledge of learning theories, interpretative techniques and state education standards
* Knowledge of wildlife, behavioral modification, and enrichment practices
* Able to operate moderately complex computer software programs
* Demonstrated ability to lead and manage effective teams
* Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
* Knowledge of evaluation methods
* Proven track record of leading diverse teams to implement ambitious change
