The Microbiologist will be part of a small, collaborative group, but must also be comfortable working independently in a high throughput testing environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
- Perform procedures in accordance with standard methods and internal SOPs; ability to demonstrate competence in microbiological culture & qPCR techniques
- Analyze samples consisting of a variety of matrices and cross train in sample intake and accessioning.
- Troubleshooting and identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance and/or reporting of test results by initiating corrective action
- Prepare samples and required laboratory quality controls for analysis while displaying good laboratory technique to avoid cross contamination or misidentified samples.
- Maintain a sterile work environment and undergo cleaning procedures as necessary, to ensure ongoing proper workflow.
- Track inventory of supplies and reagents to ensure continuous workflow.
- Research new technologies and methodologies to improve laboratory processes and techniques.
- Must have the experience of working in a regulated laboratory environment.
- Follow decontamination protocols to maintain a sterile testing environment and apply aseptic technique to test procedures
- Analyze and record testing results; accurately transfer results to LIMS
- Write/generate reports for microbiology department
- Preparation & QC of media, buffers, spiking solutions, and other reagents
- Maintain quality control cultures and plates
- Assist with validations/verifications of new equipment & methods for microbiology department.
- Other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in biology, biochemistry, or other related discipline.
- Experience working in an FDA &/or ISO 17025 accredited laboratory (or other regulated laboratory settings) required.
- 2-5 years of relevant industry experience (handling bacterial and fungal cultures)
- Cannabis/pharmaceutical industry experience (a plus)
- Ability to work both independently with little guidance, and within a collaborative group environment
- Must be at least 21 years of age
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and use of hands
- Observe, see, hear, and respond to directions given with effective outcome
- Ability to lift 30 lbs. from the floor to a waist-high table when necessary
- Handle the responsibilities and routine stress often associated with this position
