This is an exempt level position.
Position Summary:
The Cell Engineering group is recruiting an experienced computational biologist to join the Design Biology team. The successful candidate will be the bioinformatics subject matter expert (SME) responsible for developing and deploying automated methods for omics data analysis. This bioinformatician will play a critical role in accelerating DBTL cycles for multiple strain development projects while enabling the strain development teams to explore new routes to strain improvement. This position will be highly impactful to ADM's goals of diversifying the commercial scale production of bio-based sustainable materials and nutritional products through fermentation.

Job Responsibilities:
- Develop computational methods for RNAseq read mapping, normalization, statistical analysis and data visualization
- Create automated pipelines for Next Generation Sequencing data for whole genome assembly, genome annotation and variant identification
- Build, maintain and curate an internal sequence database
- Perform large-scale phylogenetic analysis of protein sequence data capturing diverse variants for automated selection of enzyme candidates
- Collaborate with strain engineering scientists on analysis of data from HTP screening platforms
- Communicate software development objectives and deliverables to ADM Research team members and maintain detailed records
- Contribute to a team-oriented, positive, safe and inclusive work environment
Job Requirements:
These skills and experiences will be required or useful for the candidate:
- PhD or MSc in Bioinformatics or Computer Science and industry experience in the life sciences
- Demonstrated success in developing bioinformatics pipelines and biological databases
- Proficiency in Python, Java or R, C/C++, Perl, SQL
- Experience coding in Linux/Unix operating systems and familiarity with version control (git) and continuous integration platforms
- Great attention to detail, excellent documentation practices and ability to communicate complex subjects to stakeholders
