The Marine Manager reports to the owner of the company for all marine operations related to the tugboats, barges and all water related work. He/she keeps abreast, updates, and implements new rules, regulations, and policies relevant to the organization and the operation of the vessels. The Marine Manager monitors vessels and ensures compliance with Information Security Management (ISM), International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and International Regulatory requirements.

The Marine Manager provides marine-related input and advice to the superintendents. Liaises with the Marine Superintendents to achieve annual key performance indicators (KPIs). He/she monitors adherence to the organizations risk management procedures and develops a framework to manage risk and oversees the implementation of workflow improvements.

The Marine Manager manages and motivates a multi-cultural team of Marine workers and has a deep knowledge of requirements for vessels. He/she has is a self-starter in the improvement of marine operations and management of vessels.

Responsibilities:

Oversees operation of vessels through Captains and operations supervision of the marine fleet and crews. Provides leadership for the department, manage budgets, conducts performance assessments, and manages employee development.

Creates the development, implementation, and maintenance for the marine fleet operational policy- masters standing orders (MSO), standard operating procedures (SOP), and safe working procedures (SWP). Ensures all vessels and crews are prepared for inspections/certifications.

Ensures workplace safety by implementing, maintaining, and monitoring the Safety Management System for vessels. Includes regular safety meetings, onboard visits, communications, and other safety protocols.

Conducts/oversees post-incident investigations to determine root cause of incident. If necessary, attends all hearings, provides recommendations and actions plans and follows up on ensuring corrective measures are put in place to prevent future incidents.

Oversees the operations contingency plan and acts as the Incident Commander during emergency and salvage response situations, which includes implementation of the Incident Commander System.

Analyse risks of potential business opportunities.

Conduct interviews and make recommendations on new hires.

Develop a framework and process to manage business risk.

Establish the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) for the business.

Create effectiveness of systems and strategies to monitor compliance.

Create emergency crisis management plans.

Implement improvements to workflows to improve efficiency.

Oversee vessel inspections, audits, and dry dockings.

Work with crewing agency in Panama for crew rotations.

Work closely with Panamanian maritime authority.

Work with insurance company to ensure all insurance is correct and up to date.

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in marine studies, including nautical studies and maritime business preferred.

Five years of experience in the occupation, or a related field or work area, OR an appropriate combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of knowledge and skill equivalent to that gained in the above, OR appropriate experience that demonstrates that the applicant has acquired the knowledge, skills, and abilities equivalent to that gained in the above.

At least five years of supervisory experience

Must have a strong operational background and possess a demonstrated ability to lead and direct a large, diverse workforce.

Knowledge of organization and planning skills, change leadership skills, customer-centric operational skills, supervisory and team-building skills.

Experience with budgets and analyzing and connecting financial reports to operational performance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
