Spring 2022 Conservation Intern

Overview:

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations. Position Summary:

NRDC is seeking an intern to work with our Nature Program in NRDC's Northern Rockies Office in Bozeman, Montana. This internship will support NRDC's advocacy work on wildlife and related conservation issues in the Northern Rockies. The internship will begin in February 2022 or soon thereafter. We are seeking applicants that can work full time (35-hour-per-week for 10 weeks) but we are open to negotiating a part-time position depending on the right candidate's needs. This is a paid internship with a full stipend amounting to $6,000 to $10,000, dependent upon experience. A remote work arrangement will be offered for this position.

The intern will lead a research project focused on state wildlife governance in the Northern Rockies and in other Western states. This will involve gathering information through internet research and individual conversations on topics related to funding structures, legislation, representation, and demographics within wildlife decision-making bodies and various stakeholder groups. The outcomes of this work will include a written summary of findings and working with team members to identify key issues and solutions.

Responsibilities:

Research state wildlife governance funding structures, legislation, demographics and other related topics

Summarize findings in a written report

Help inform future wildlife conservation efforts; and

Contribute to wildlife conservation work by assisting staff with various projects related to human-wildlife conflict, wildlife policy and species recovery.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience;

Resourceful, able to manage a project from start to finish, and motivated to succeed;

Excellent written and verbal communications skills;

An interest in relationship building and learning from diverse perspectives in the wildlife conservation community;

A passion for conservation issues in the West and alignment with NRDC's mission; and

Commitment to NRDC's
