The AstraZeneca Newark Supply Site in Newark, DE, was established in 1971 and currently employs approximately 260 people. Over the course of these years, Newark has undergone many product portfolio changes since it first began as Stuart Pharmaceuticals through today as the designated AZ North America Packaging Center of Excellence and a Flexible Formulation site for global supply of complex products. The Microbiologist / Senior Microbiologist maintains responsibility for the microbiology program at the Newark Site. The two core responsibilities are the efficient and effective management of the Environmental Monitoring program and the management of the sampling and testing program for the site purified water system. This position will be hired at either grade level - Microbiologist or Sr. Microbiologist based on the qualifications and expereinces of the successful candidate. What you will do: Microbiologist: * Performs viable and non-viable environmental monitoring, water sampling, and testing. * Performs sampling, testing, and identification of microbiology samples. * Performs microbiological testing on a range of samples, including chemical raw materials, components (including packaging materials), finished products, water, and environmental samples. * Performs or leads project work, including tech transfers, method and equipment/software validations. * Authors, reviews, or approves supporting documentation relevant to the laboratory (ie… SOPs, training documents, CAPAs, OOS and deviation investigations, change controls, etc). Senior Microbiologist: In addition to those listed above but not limited to: * Serves as the main contact for issues as they arise, and aid/direct troubleshooting activities when appropriate. * Acts as a leader in the laboratory through the display of leadership capabilities. * Aids in the development of microbiologists / senior microbiologists through mentoring and training. * Self-motivated demonstrates leadership and works independently with minimal guidance from management. * High level of proficiency in problem-solving, creativity, independent thought, and good judgment. Essentials: Minimum Qualifications: Microbiologist * Bachelor's degree in a Science subject (Microbiology, or closely related subjects). Actual degree requirements will be set at the time of hiring, depending on current business needs, OR prior experience, and demonstrated capability through the QC Senior Technician role. Preferred Qualifications: * Minimum of 2 years QC microbiology laboratory experience. * High level of knowledge and competence with a specific piece of laboratory equipment, or a QC/QA process or system. * GMP experience. Minimum Qualifications: Senior Microbiologist * Bachelor's degree in a Science subject (Microbiology, or closely related subjects). Actual degree requirements will be set at the time of hiring, depending on current business needs. * Minimum of 3 years laboratory experience. Preferred Qualifications: * Minimum of 5 years of QC microbiology laboratory experience. * Minimum of 2 years GMP experience * Project Management experience * Higher-level degree.
